EURO travellers rejoice! GoEuro, the platform for comparing and booking trains, buses and flights across Europe, has analysed more than 70 European airports to rank the fastest and cheapest transfers to city centres.

Whilst air travel may be the quickest point-to-point travel option, getting from the airport to the city centre can be tricky and stressful, especially if it’s your first time at a new destination. GoEuro’s new research allows savvy travellers to begin their holiday sooner, assessing distance, duration and price from the terminal to the city.

1. Nice Côte d'Azur, five minute transfer from £1.59

2. Lanzarote, 10 minute transfer from £1.24

3. Birmingham, 9 minute transfer from £2.90

4. Málaga-Costa del Sol, 12 minute transfer from £1.59

5. Frankfurt, 10 minute transfer from £4.24

When it’s faster by train …

WHILE there’s nothing faster than air travel point-to-point, it seems there’s nothing slower than airports to grind those time savings to a halt. The congested roads, shopping mall-sized terminals, the interminable lines to check in and pass through security, and baggage claim delays upon arrival all accumulate to make what should be a quick trip a slow affair. Now with heightened security at Europe’s airports, the increasing delays are driving more European travellers to seek alternatives to flying.

#GoEuro, the search engine for comparing and booking rail, coach, and flight travel across Europe, has studied ten major intra-Europe travel routes and has found that when including wait time and airport transits, the train gets travellers to their destination faster every time.

On all 10 routes, train travel saved approximately an hour or more compared to flying. The five routes from Brussels, however, saved between two and more than four hours against flying. From Brussels to Paris, for example, the train was four hours eight minutes faster than flying between the capitals. London to Paris was one hour 41 minutes faster by train, and travel from Madrid to both Barcelona and Seville were each an hour and five minutes faster by rail.

Naren Shaam, CEO and founder of GoEuro said: ‘Perhaps it’s that US. travellers are more used to booking air travel thanks to the proliferation of airline online booking engines or just because distances are significantly greater in the US., but with the expected worsening of airport security delays this summer, looking at rail options for travelling in Europe would be a smart move.

Take the bus in France

TRAINS have long dominated travel in #France, but legislation to deregulate aspects of the country’s economy is opening up the long distance bus industry. GoEuro.co.uk, the search engine for comparing flights, coach and rail travel options across Europe, has created a comprehensive map of all the 250 new routes available across France and into Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Belgium. 

France is expected to have more than five million additional coach passengers within the next year, resulting in 22,000 more jobs. The deregulation of the market is also expected to see a 10% to 70% drop in ticket prices over the next year as more operators come into the market.

British companies such as National Express and Megabus are expected to expand their services in France.

The most popular long distance bus journeys in France are those between Paris and other major French and European cities such as London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Barcelona, Lyon, and Marseille. Travellers might appreciate the services running through the south of France, including the A9 road to Barcelona and the A7 –Highway of the Sun – which has been deemed the most beautiful motorway in France.
