Udaipur’s City Palace Museum

ONE of India’s finest heritage destinations, the City Palace Museum in Udaipur, #India is unveiling a packed programme of events, festivals, celebrations and exhibitions for visitors. The schedule taking place in the heart of regal Rajasthan includes a recital by world-renowned French cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton and lecture by Professor John S. Hawley.  

Special exhibitions commemorating the bicentenary of the Mewar-British East India Company treaty, Eternal Mewar festivals, celebrations, guest lectures and youth events are all set to take place over the coming months in and around Udaipur’s spectacular 450-year-old palace complex, along the shores of Lake Pichola. 

The 200,000 sq ft City Palace Museum is hailed as a jewel in India’s heritage crown and is Udaipur’s prime tourist attraction. In 2014 a record-breaking one million visitors passed through its gates. The museum houses exceptional collections of paintings, photography, silver, armoury and textiles.

Rajasthani royal family fort due to open as hotel in 2018

SITUATED 68 miles (110 kilometers) southeast of Jaipur, located in the village of Chauth ka Barwara in Rajasthan, #India on the site of a 700-year-old fort which was owned by the Rajasthani Royal Family and sitting directly opposite the temple, Chauth ka Barwara Mandir will be the Six Senses Fort Barwara due to open in 2018.

The Barwara Fort was constructed in the 14th century by the Chauhans (Indian Rajput caste) and was conquered by the Rajawat Dynasty from the Hadas in 1734. During World War II, Raja Man Singh from the noble family of Barwara along with Jaipur State Armed Forces fought alongside the British. In appreciation of his services he was bestowed with the title of Rao Bahadur. His grandson, Prithviraj Singh, is now restoring the fort to its previous glory in tandem with Espire Group. The project team will seek the five-star green rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) certification, the highest classification of national sustainable design ratings in India.

Design efforts are being led by a team of conservation experts to preserve and protect the original fort structure. The 5.5 acre (2.2 hectare) site is encircled by an imposing 5-foot (1.5 meter) thick rock wall that rises up to 20 feet (6 meters) in some sections. Inside the historic fort, three buildings which traditionally accommodated the common, men’s and women’s palaces and two temples are being preserved and restored. Outside the fort, the property faces the local village to the west and protected land that will be reforested to the east.

230 year old warrior fort to re-open as boutique resort

IN Rajasthan is Fort Bishangarh - a 230-year-old defensive fortress which has been seven years in restoration and transformation, Alila Fort Bishangarh will open in February 2017.

Found in the Aravalli hills between Delhi and Jaipur and Fort Bishangarh is thought to be one of the only warrior forts of its kind to be converted into a unique heritage resort of this stature. It has a remarkable presence, sitting up high on a granite hill with staggering 360-degree views of the Rajasthani landscape, surrounded by hills and dotted with havelis, villages and temples. A tiny village skirts its base and adds to the rural charm.

Bishangarh Village in the Arvalli hills is in the Jaipur district. It is a three-hour drive from New Delhi and an hour’s drive from Jaipur. It is ideally located to explore the charm and beauty of rural Rajasthan.
