India making its mark

TRAVEL and tourism in #India is on an upswing as six Indian cities make it to the leading 100 destinations globally, according to the Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index 2017. 

The six cities include Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and Bengaluru. 

Chennai leads the pack in India, besides standing out among the top 10 destinations in Asia Pacific when it comes to overnight visitor arrivals.

Mobile in Maribor

MARIBOR, the second largest city in #Slovenia, spans from the Pohorje hills on one side of the Drava river to the wine-growing hills on the other. Maribor has developed from a former industrial centre into an important cultural city in the eastern part of Slovenia. On the Drava River embankment, is also the Old Vine House with the oldest vine in the world. The confirmed age of the vine is over 450 years, which won it a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest noble vine in the world still bearing grapes.

BRISTOL artist Luke Jerram's musical art trail, Play Me, I'm Yours, has returned to the streets of Bristol this week from August 17 to September 7th.

The pianos - each decorated by a different #Bristol artist - will be installed in public spaces across a city for everyone to play and enjoy.

Chiang Mai top city destination for 2017

CHIANG Mai in Northern #Thailand has taken third place in a list of the 15 best city #destinations in the world for 2017 by readers of the respected and influential travel magazine Travel + Leisure in their Travel +Leisure World’s Best Awards: The World’s Top 15 Cities.

Johannesburg: Africa's most visited city

JOHANNESBURG is set to be the most popular destination city in #Africa for the fourth year, according to the 2016 Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index.

The city is expected to welcome 3.6 million international overnight visitors in 2016, a 6.2 percent increase on last year’s 3.39 million visitors. 

Cairo in Egypt is the second most visited African city with 1.5 million international overnight visitors followed by Cape Town (1.4 million visitors), Casablanca in Morocco (1 million visitors), and Durban (831,000 visitors).
