DREAM Cruises, “Asia’s Global Cruise Line” and the only International cruise company that has year-round homeport deployments at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, welcomed the arrival of the 2 millionth passenger – Ms. Mu from Taiwan on September 23.
In 2018, Hong Kong is ranked 4th with the number of cruise calls in Asia. In 2017 the passenger throughput of Kai Tak Cruise Terminal doubled to 780,000. It is projected that the number of ship calls and cruise passenger throughput in #HongKong as a whole would range from 181 to 258 and from 564,102 to 1,041,031 respectively by 2023.

New cruise terminal for Tahiti
EXPLORING The Islands of #Tahiti by sea is not only one of the most convenient methods to island-hop but is also an awe-inspiring experience to immerse oneself in the destination’s stunning 118 islands. Seagoers from across the world will be able to enjoy Papeete’s new International Cruise Terminal, which is scheduled to open in 2020.
Financed by the Port of Papeete, the new cruise terminal will have the capacity to accommodate up to three ships simultaneously and 2,000 turnaround passengers. The terminal will also feature amenities such as an aerial walk, luggage room, check-in counters, waiting room, duty free, snack bar and café and reservations facilities.
Concurrently, the Aéroport de Tahiti is also undertaking a $12 million upgrade of Faa’a International Airport which is 1.8 miles from the cruise port. Airport capacity is presently at 2.5 million passengers per year and there are three departing long haul flights and two long-haul arrivals every day. This planned renovation, which is expected to be finished by 2020, includes an extension to the airport, refurbishment of the landside terminal and a new public hall containing new retail areas, shops and restaurants.

New International Cruise terminal scheduled to Open in 2020

Southampton's QEII cruise terminal set for £5m upgrade
A £5 MILLION revamp of Southampton’s QEII cruise terminal will begin this winter.
The work, jointly funded by ABP Port of Southampton and Carnival UK, is being carried out over two phases in 2015/16 and will include a ship-to-shore walkway to replace the existing one, which was initially installed for Cunard’s Queen Mary 2. This will ensure a greater range of ships can use the terminal.
The upgrade will also include improvements to the existing check-in, baggage, and passenger X-ray areas, installing a 46-person lift and re-organizing the passenger drop-off area.
ABP Southampton director, Nick Ridehalgh, said: ‘The number of cruise passengers coming through Southampton’s port continues to rise, with 1.75 million expected to pass through this year. It’s therefore vital that we ensure our facilities are in the very best shape to accommodate these passengers and that they are laid out in a way that gives people a seamless and stress-free start to their holidays.’

Plymouth takes steps toward cruise port …
GP Wild International, whose clients have included CruiseScotland, Monaco, and the port city of Dubrovnik, is compiling a report which will examine the current cruise market, its future trends, and Plymouth’s place in the market.
A consortium comprising Plymouth City Council, Associated British Ports, the Plymouth and Devon Chamber of Commerce, Destination Plymouth, and Plymouth Waterfront Partnership has commissioned the report.
The study’s scope will include discussions with organizations such as the Ministry of Defence and the Environment Agency to get an overview of what would need to be achieved to overcome current constraints.
Should the economic feasibility studies prove compelling, Plymouth would then aim to have an operational cruise liner berth in place for the Mayflower 400 commemorations in 2020.
A key part of the project will be an analysis of world cruise fleets in terms of ship length and passenger capacity, and the potential for ships to berth in Plymouth.

The development, which was given approval by Greenwich Council last month, will also include 477 homes, a skills academy, restaurants, cafes, and bars.
The London City Cruise Port at Enderby Wharf will be able to handle 55 cruise ships a year when it becomes operational in 2017. Ships carrying up to 1,600 passengers will be able to use the terminal.
The development will create almost 500 full-time jobs.

Barcelona to get new private cruise terminal
THE Port Authority of #Barcelona has welcomed an investment of more than €30 million (£21.3 million) to build and operate a second private #cruise terminal.
The cash will come from Carnival Corporation, which presently has seven of its ten cruise lines using Barcelona as both a destination and home port.
Construction of the new terminal will start in 2016, and it’s scheduled to be operating in 2018.
‘As an all-new, next-generation cruise facility, the terminal will be designed to enhance the overall cruise experience for Carnival Corporation’s guests,’ said Michel Nestour, managing director of Carnival Corporation terminal operations in Barcelona. ‘This will include making it easy and convenient for guests, whether they are arriving at the terminal to begin a cruise vacation, disembarking following the completion of a cruise or visiting Barcelona as one of the ports of call on a cruise.
Across its six existing terminals in 2014, the Port of Barcelona had 764 cruise calls and over 2.36 million passenger movements. It is Europe’s largest port, and the world’s fourth busiest.
