Gothenburg launches its first indoor street food market

WITH a constantly changing line up of different stalls, the new Lindholmen Street Food Market in #Gothenburg is a food lovers’ paradise. 

Many of the top restaurants from Gothenburg and further afield are popping up at the market, alongside local breweries, coffee sellers and bakers. All the stalls offer tapas style small portions for around SEK 50 (£4.50), allowing market-goers to try several dishes. 

The market is open on Saturday afternoons from 12pm – 6pm (excluding 17 June to 26 August when it is closed for the summer).

What's London's favourite food dish

THE #MyLondonDish social media campaign was launched earlier this year by London Mayor Sadiq Khan as a way of celebrating the outstanding food on offer in London. The campaign forms part of his broader #LondonIsOpen movement.

People from across the capital, including top chefs and food experts, have shared hundreds of images of some of the capital’s most loved dishes on social media using the hashtag #MyLondonDish. Supporters of the campaign include Jamie Oliver, Duck and Waffle’s Dan Doherty, Jasmine and Melissa Hemsley, ‘Clerkenwell Boy’, and many more.

VisitLondon.com has shortlisted the top 50, and the public vote is now open to crown the top #MyLondonDish. This will be used along with other top dishes to encourage visitors to explore the capital’s cuisine. All voters will have a chance to win tickets to the Evening Standard’s London Food Month Night Market or a dinner for two at one of the capital’s best restaurants.

London has the highest concentration of restaurants in the UK including 65 Michelin-starred establishments, and offers more than 70 world cuisines. It is hoped that the #MyLondonDish campaign and #competition will encourage tourists to spend more time researching and exploring the incredible variety of food and dining available in the capital.

UK's largest cheese fair returns in 2016

THE UK'S largest cheese fair will return for its sixth year in 2016 when the Artisan Cheese Fair takes place in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire (April 30-May 1).

Last year, more than 8,000 cheese-lovers visited the fair, at which more than 50 cheesemakers showcased in excess of 250 products.

There will be talks, demonstrations, and tastings.

Matthew O'Callaghan, the fair’s organizer, says: ‘The Artisan Cheese Fair is now into its sixth year and continues to grow in size and quality of experience for local, regional, and national visitors. With plans for more exhibitors, offering more types of cheese than ever, this year's event will be the largest cheese fair of its type in the UK.’

Based on a formula similar to that of markets in Barcelona, Madrid, and Lisbon, and open from 10am to midnight, 365 days a year, it will host cooking classes, private tastings and cookery shows.
