Kew up for chocolate

#KEWGARDENS at #Easter will be the venue for a family day out including arts and crafts activities … and a chance to explore the Lindt chocolate trail that winds throughout the gardens. (March 19-April 10.)

The Bean to Bar Workshops will give visitors the opportunity to make their own chocolate and find out about its production.

Displays in the Palm House and Princess of Wales Conservatory will explain how plants have been used to change the taste of cacao to come up with chocolate as we know it today.

Have a spice day out

WE don’t think twice about the peppermill on our dining table or the vanilla in our ice-cream, but the power of some plants to colour, flavour, and preserve makes them worth more than their weight in gold.

This summer (May 23-September 6), The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London, will explore the world of spices … from the distant lands in which they grow to the botanists authenticating them at Kew for hundreds of years, their stories will be told through a programme featuring banquets, interactive installations, and exhibitions.

Orchids on show

KEW GARDENS in London will be hosting an orchid festival from February 7 to March 8.

The story of orchid pollination will be brought to life by a pond centrepiece, a giant bloom crafted from flowers, and visitors will also see horticultural displays.

Elisa Biondi, a display horticulturalist at Kew says: ‘I’ve been thrilled to work on the designs for the festival. Orchids are not beautiful for nothing and it’s incredibly exciting to be able to show visitors just how clever they are through our displays.’
