The Somerset Poppies

AT the Bishop's Palace in Wells an installation has literally popped up on the Croquet lawn. Featuring over 8000 poppies made by children at schools in and around Wells, Somerset. Each poppy will represent a serviceman from Somerset, or who served in a Somerset regiment, who lost his life in World War One.

Poppies can be pre-ordered for £5 at www.somersetpoppies.co.uk. All proceeds will be donated to the Wells branch of the Royal British Legion, and SSAFA, the armed forces charity.

The exhibition (11th - 25th November) is free to view.

Red Poppy Festival

KNOWN as the “Red Poppy Capital Of Texas,” the city of Georgetown, #Texas, will mark the spring season by celebrating its signature red poppies with the 18th Annual Red Poppy Festival, April 28 - 30, 2017.

Located downtown in the “Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas,” the festival encompasses three days of concerts, parades, contests, art, food and family fun in the downtown area.

Georgetown is one of the few places in the United States where red poppies grow naturally every year. On April 25, 1990 the town was certified by local residents and the Texas Legislature as the “Red Poppy Capital of Texas.” Red poppies have been a part of Georgetown’s landscape for more than 70 years.

Admission is free.
