Thrills and Spills

A new study shows that ‘good thrills’ are a major factor helping people feeling a prolonged sense of happiness – as 65 per cent of Brits report enjoying the thrill of a man-made adrenaline rush.

The research, commissioned by Alton Towers Resort, helps to further explain the psychological and physiological reasons why people enjoy thrill rides – with 56 per cent of Brits regularly doing something they deem scary, such as watching a horror film or sky-diving, to feel a subsequent sense of joy or happiness. Amongst 18-24 year olds, 67 per cent said they feel an immediate sense of joy from thrilling experiences.

Drownings as selfie craze gets fatal

THRILL SEEKERS are visiting the coastlines of Britain with the intention of taking selfies in the most dangerous poses, and the craze is often landing them in trouble … many are ending up dead.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) reports that the desire to catch the perfect pose has led to the deaths of 92 people over the past two years. The RNLI reports saving almost 385 lives in near fatal incidents.

People go far too close to slippery, unstable, and uneven cliff edges to take their picture with the coastline in the background. Many have fallen into the sea.

SeaWorld to open Orlando’s fastest rollercoaster

OPENING next summer is #Mako, a 200-foot hypercoaster that will reach speeds of up to 73 mph along 4,760 feet of steel track, leaving riders feeling both breathless and weightless.

The ride, which will open at #SeaWorld Orlando, will be the tallest, fastest and longest coaster in Orlando.

Mako’s tight turns and speed are inspired by one of the ocean’s fastest sharks.

Mako sharks, also called blue pointers, are known for their top speed, making extreme jumps, and the ability to quickly change course as they pursue their prey.

‘On Mako, you’ll experience what it’s like to be this apex predator, surging through the water at top speed and chasing prey across a massive reef,’ said Brian Morrow, SeaWorld’s creative director. ‘It will be a wild mix of fear, thrills, and fun.’
