KAZA Univisa shortage in Zambia

WILD Horizons the adventure tour operator based in Victoria Falls has reported that there is presently a shortage of KAZA UNIVISA stickers in #Zambia. 

The entry points namely (Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport, Victoria Falls Border Post, Zambian side and Kazungula Border Post, Zambian side) have run out of KAZA UNIVISA stickers.

The standard Zambian single and double entry visas will be available at these Ports of Entry until this matter has been resolved.

Best Times to visit Victoria Falls

YOU can make your trip to the Falls the best experience possible for you by considering your personality/travel traits when timing your visit. Before you jump to booking your plane ticket in all the excitement Tongabezi Lodge has put together these important questions to ask yourself:

Are adventure and thrills what you are looking for?

If the answer is yes then you should really visit Victoria Falls during the drier months of the year when the water levels are at their lowest between mid-August and mid-January.

A visit during low water levels, allows you the opportunity to plunge into Devil’s Pool, a dangerous-looking natural swimming hole on top of the falls. For most, the name ‘Devil’s Pool’ would be enough to put you off the experience. However, for the adventurous souls who seek out life’s greatest thrills, this is a must do.

To get there requires a 10-minute boat trip to Livingstone Island, followed by a short guided swim (at times against the current) to the rock pool where you can peer over the edge of the 354-foot drop. The conditions for rafting down the Zambezi rapids are also ideal this time of year.

Photo's important?

You should consider visiting the Victoria Falls during the transition periods between the low and high water levels, either in February or between June and July. This is a superb time to photograph the falls as you won’t get totally drenched from the mist like you would during high water levels.

Nothing but the best for you?

Visit when the river is typically in full flow during March and April. During this time, as much as 540 million cubic meters of water fall over the edge every single minute. The Victoria Falls during high water spans the entire 1.7km width of the Zambezi River, thick with beautiful rainbows. 

Looking to grab a good deal?

Plan your stay during the low booking season between January and May or during the holiday season from November to December. Accommodation prices are at their lowest and you won’t be fighting the crowds like you normally would in peak season. Zambia’s rainy season typically begins late November and last until mid-March, although it varies from year to year.

Kaza Uni-Visa reinstated

The Governments of the Republics of #Zambia and #Zimbabwe are pleased to announce the re-launch of the Kavango Zambezi Trans-Frontier Conservation Area (Kaza) Uni-Visa on 21st December 2016, with Citizens from 40 countries being eligible. The visa is only available for holiday/tourism purposes.

The Uni-Visa is only available at the following ports of entry:

• Harry Mwaanga Airport, Zambia
• Victoria Falls Land Border, Zambia
• Kazungula Land Border, Botswana border
• Kenneth Kaunda Airport, Lusaka 
• Victoria Falls Airport, Zimbabwe
• Harare Airport, Zimbabwe

The visa will be valid for 30 days and act as a multiple entry visa as long as you remain in Zimbabwe and Zambia but you can cross between the two as often as you wish in the 30 day period. It also covers those who visit Botswana for day trips through the Kazangula Borders, however, it will not be valid if staying in Botswana overnight. In this case, you would need to purchase a new Visa

New Zambian aviation charges introduced

THE Zambian Civil Aviation Authority and National Airports Corporation Ltd have announced the following aviation fees effective 1 December 2016:-

1. Passenger Safety charge (Zambian Civil Aviation Authority)
2. Navigation fees (National Airports)

The implications of these fees are as follows:-

International flights:
Payable on any tickets bought from 01/12/16 at US$ 10 per person. This will be added to the ticket by the airline and has an IATA code H2. All tickets bought prior to today are exempt.

Domestic flights:
An additional US$ 5 per person will be collected for passenger's safety charges and airport charges effective from the 1st of December 2016. This extra charge will be collected directly from guests at the airport.

Helicopter & Microlight flights:
An additional US$ 6 per person will be collected for passenger's safety charges and airport charges effective from the 1st of December 2016. This extra charge will be collected directly from guests at the helipad.

Green awards for Wild Horizons

#SAFARI and adventure holiday operator Wild Horizons reports that The Elephant Camp and The Victoria Falls private game reserve have achieved awards from Green Tourism, the sustainable certification programme. 

The Elephant Camp won a silver award, while The Victoria Falls reserve gained a bronze.

A Green Tourism award means that a business … 

• Works responsibly, ethically, and sustainably 
• Contributes to its community 
• Is reducing its impact on the environment 
• Aims to be accessible and inclusive to all visitors and staff 

To achieve accreditation, The Elephant Camp was graded on-site by a qualified assessor against a rigorous set of criteria, covering aspects such as energy and water efficiency, waste management, bio-diversity, and social involvement and communication.

#GreenTourism particularly applauded the ethical practices the company – based in Zimbabwe and Zambia – employs in its elephant-back safaris, and the other animals in its care, noting: ‘These safaris and the elephants they work with are kept to a high standard of animal husbandry, and really lead the way in working sustainably with elephants.’

*Wild Horizons is introducing daily tours of the Victoria Falls guided in Spanish and French. The tours – lasting approximately two hours – depart from Victoria Falls hotels between 8am and 8.30am daily, and must be pre-booked. The company has full-time Spanish and French guides, and also can provide Italian and German guides upon request and subject to availability.
