Qatar: most open country in the region

IN the past months, #Qatar has taken huge strides in implementing visa policies to facilitate visitor access to the country, resulting in Qatar now qualifying as the most open country in the region. It is now easier than ever before for visitors from nearly half of the world’s countries to discover the destination’s renowned hospitality, cultural heritage and natural treasures.

In August 2017, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI), Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) and Qatar Airways announced that nationals of 80 countries are now eligible for #visa-free entry, without requiring any prior applications or fee payments.

A recent addition also includes the Electronic Travel Authorisation System, available to visitors of all nationalities who hold valid residence permits or visas from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Schengen countries, or the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Impacts of business travel for Australians

NEW research by International SOS has identified the impact of business travel on people’s mental health and the need for Australian companies to improve emotional support for travelling staff. Close to one million Australians travel overseas for work each year, but in doing so they potentially face an increased risk of stress, depression and anxiety that can have far-reaching consequences. Travelling through different time zones (‘jetlag’), poor sleep and diet, a lack of work/life balance and social isolation from friends and family have been identified as the top stress factors for business travellers, along with having to contend with different organisational cultures or structures.

TAP now serves three airports in London

TAP’s operation between London City airport and Lisbon launched on 29 October 2017, with the inaugural flight taking off from London City at 7:50pm. TAP now serves three airports in London, offering two daily flights on week-days and one daily flight on weekends from London City to #Lisbon.

With the new addition to its network, TAP becomes the only airline to connect London City, located in the city’s financial centre, and the cosmopolitan destination of Lisbon, and the first Airline to fly this route in the 30 years London City Airport has been operating.

When the final destination is not Lisbon or Porto, passengers can also take advantage of the Portugal Stopover programme on their way out or during their return flight, stopping in Portugal for one, two or three nights for no additional charge to their fare. Since its launch in summer 2016 until the end of last July, almost 70 thousand passengers have already made the most of the programme, and with this new route numbers are expected to rise even further.

Exhibition fit for a King

THE Government Public Relations Department of #Thailand (PRD) has announced that the exhibition of the #Royal #Crematorium for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej will open for viewing by the general public from 2 to 30 November, 2017.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over the opening ceremony of the exhibition on 2 November, 2017, according to the PRD. The public will be able to view the Royal Crematorium and the supplementary structures in the exhibition in order to learn more about arts and culture regarding this ceremony. 

The exhibition, at the Royal Merit-Making Pavilion, or Phra Thinang Song Tham, will feature His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s biography and royally initiated projects in all parts of the country. At the Government Officials’ Pavilions, or Sala Luk Khun, the exhibition will illustrate the construction of the Royal Crematorium, the renovation of royal chariots and palanquins, as well as the inclusion of architectural works and artistic creations. 

During the exhibition period, cultural shows will be performed between 18:00 and 22:00 Hrs. Groups of 5,500 people will be allowed to visit the Royal Crematorium for about an hour at a time; it is expected to serve 104,000 people per day.

Five star luxury in Tel Aviv

A new luxury hotel is due to open in #Israel in early 2018 and will be located at site of historic 13th century structure.

The Setai, Tel Aviv, a new five-star deluxe hotel joins The Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd's prestigious collection of independent luxury hotels, will be located in the historic old Jaffa area of Tel Aviv. This will be the hospitality group's second Setai in Israel, following the recent opening of the Sea of Galilee property in May 2017, and third globally, joining The Setai, Miami Beach.

The hotel is located in the heart of the city, steps from the famous Clock Square and the city's coastline, at the historic site known as the "Kishle." It was originally constructed by the Turkish Empire to be a prison on the site of a historic Crusader fortress.
