Travellers to Turkey will have to apply for an
e-visa online prior to departure from mid-April, says the Association of
British Travel Agents. The new system replaces the current procedure which
allows visitors to buy visas – £10 in cash – at airports on arrival in Turkey.
Said ABTA in a statement: “We are concerned that
consumers, particularly those who have not booked through ABTA members, might not
be aware of the new requirement and might as a consequence be refused entry to
Turkey.”
All visitors to Turkey from April 11th 2014 will be
required to purchase their entry visa – which is essentially tourist tax – via
the Turkish government’s website.
