THIS year’s expected boost in tourist numbers will create an additional 6,800 jobs in #Ireland, says the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation (ITIC).
The forecast for 2016 comes after the country’s tourism industry earned €7 billion (£5.27 billion) in 2015, a 16 percent increase on the previous year. A record eight million foreign tourists visited Ireland in 2015.
ITIC CEO Eoghan O’Mara Walsh commented on the figures: ‘Irish tourism performed extremely well in 2015, a testament to the quality and competitiveness of our tourism product and industry. A number of external factors have also been in Ireland’s favour, including healthy economies fueling a strong demand for travel in our key source markets, favourable exchange rates, and increased capacity on air and sea services to Ireland.’
