Take-off for Australia's first aerial adventure park

AUSTRALIA’S first aerial adventure park – inspired by a British Army aerial assault training course –has opened in #Adelaide.

The #MegaAdventure #AerialPark at West Beach in the Adelaide Shores precinct features an 85ft-high structure called SkyMate with 50 crossings.

MegaAdventure managing director Alex Blyth said it was the first structure of its kind to launch in Australia. ‘The idea developed while I was working in the British Army as an instructor using aerial assault courses to train recruits. I thought it would be great fun to give people the same kind of dynamic challenge in a totally safe and accessible environment.’

The world-first mega structure aims to provide an unparalleled aerial experience to create the ultimate public ‘playground’ for all ages and has the capacity to hold an additional 70 crossings.

Other offerings at MegaAdventure include a bungee trampoline, and the SkyWalk, which allows access to the top viewing deck of the SkyMate.

The company operates MegaZip Adventure Park on Sentosa Island, Singapore, which has been open for six years and has more than 120,000 guests annually.

Go ape in London

GO APE, the UK forest adventure company, is putting the finishing touches to its Go Ape Battersea Park in London ahead of opening the doors to the public on December 10.

Go Ape Battersea Park will be the company’s 29th site in the UK, its first adventure to be built outside of a forest environment, and the closest to Central London.

Incorporating some of the park’s tallest trees, Go Ape Battersea will offer a new twist on the well-established Tree Top Adventure. Higher and more physically challenging in parts, the tree top obstacle course is suitable for anyone aged six and over.

The ride of your life!

ADRENALIN junkies planning a holiday in #Australia might want to head for #TreetopsAdventurePark in the Ourimbah State Forest on the New South Wales Central Coast. It has what’s claimed to be the world’s longest tree-base zip line.

Its one kilometre (0.62 miles) long Crazy Treetop Rider winds and loops through the treetops 18 metres (59ft) above the ground. It takes approximately five thrilling minutes to get from the start to the end.

The gravity-defying zip line has been described as ‘a five-minute fast and furious experience’ by the park’s owner, Sandrine Gaymard.

As it passes through no less than 40 obstacles and 360-degree loops, including a 540-metre (1,770 ft) circle around a tree, riders hang in a seated swing harness.

‘Zip lines usually travel in a straight line, but we thought it would be incredible to build some to go around the trees, up and down, and even with 360-degree loops to really ramp up the fun factor,’ says Ms Gaymard.

Theme park costs compared, as Alton Towers owners lose £47 million after rollercoaster crash

AIRPORT PARKING AND HOTELS has compared ticket prices at some of the most popular theme parks in the UK. The results can be seen in the Know Before You Go section of the company’s website – www.aph.com/themeparks

The research compares the ticket costs for adults, children, seniors, and groups across 12 parks, including #Alton Towers, #Crealy Adventure Park, and #LEGOLAND. It also compares the cost of annual passes and VIP packages.

‘Smiler’ crash costs Merlin £47 million

MERLIN ENTERTAINMENTS has revealed that the accident at Alton Towers earlier this year could cost the company as much as £47 million. Four people were seriously injured on the ‘Smiler’ rollercoaster in June.

The park was closed temporarily as a result of the accident, with a subsequent knock on affect hitting early summer trading. Profits for the theme parks division of Merlin in 2015 are now expected to be between £40 million and £50 million, compared with £87 million last year.
