THE CALEDONIAN SLEEPER is tee-ing off a new service with luxury #golf tour operator, St Andrews Golf Travel, to take guests to the ‘Home of Golf’. 

After a successful six month trial, the free door-to-door transfers by St Andrews Golf Travel will operate six days a week, morning and night, for guests arriving at and departing from Leuchars railway station.

Established in 2013, the specialist golf tour operator in St Andrews operates a fleet of luxury cars and people carriers.

Golf tournament for Belfast

THE BELFAST PARKLAND INTERNATIONAL tournament is the first regional golf cluster to be set up under Northern Ireland’s #Golf #Tourism Strategy. It has been created by the Greater #Belfast Golf Cluster.

The annual tournament (July 3-9) will showcase five prestigious golf clubs in the Belfast area and will offer golfing tourists the opportunity of playing three, four, or all five parkland courses. It’s open to both men and women golfers.

Belfast is the pilot cluster in ongoing work by Tourism NI and the industry to develop further geographic golf cluster groups in Northern Ireland as part of the Golf Tourism Strategy, which aims to make golf tourism worth £50 million to the economy by 2020. 

The founding clubs in the Greater Belfast Golf Cluster include Rory McIlroy’s home club, Holywood Golf Club, Belvoir Park Golf Club, Malone Golf Club, Royal Belfast Golf Club, and Shandon Park Golf Club.

Simon Wallace, Tourism NI Golf Sales and Marketing manager, said: ‘Our links courses such as Royal Portrush and Royal County Down are world-famous and rightly so, but we also have a host of fantastic parkland courses, with some of the best located within the Belfast cluster.

‘Tourism NI is also committed to growing the value of golf tourism and to the development of further golf clusters. They will work on a collaborative marketing group basis to grow golf visitor numbers and revenue, and showcase Northern Ireland as a must-visit golfing destination.’

St. Kitts & Nevis to host inaugural golf classic

THE inaugural St. Kitts & Nevis Partner Golf Classic, a 54-hole partner event featuring play on two world-class golf courses – the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club and the Four Seasons Nevis #Golf Club – runs from May 3 to May 7. 

Celebrating the island's newest signature golf event, Lindsay Grant, Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry and Commerce, said: "With two championship courses and two more in various stages of construction, our twin-island destination is developing into an amazing destination for golfers, and this event is an excellent opportunity to showcase our product to this key target visitor."

The links-style Royal St. Kitts Golf Club is an 18-hole course re-designed by Thomas McBroom in 2003. Its unique layout offers holes on both the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. It was the first Caribbean golf course to earn Audubon Certification for its environmental practices. The Four Seasons Nevis Golf Club has an 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones II.

#St. Kitts & #Nevis will soon be home to the hillside Irie Fields championship course designed by Ian Woosnam at Kittitian Hill, and a cliff-top Tom Fazio championship course at Christophe Harbour.

In 2014, LINKS magazine included St. Kitts & Nevis in its ranking of the Top 25 Islands in the world for golf travel; one of only seven Caribbean islands to earn a place on the list.

Las Colinas Golf & Country Club aims to be Spain's best

LAS COLINAS GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB is looking to retain its crown as Spain's leading villa resort having been shortlisted again by the World Travel Awards.

Golf homes for sale

ONE of Spain's leading villa resorts, #LasColinas Golf & Country Club south of #Alicante, reports another successful year.

Accolade for Devon hotel

THE Best New Suite prize at the 2015 International Hotel and Property awards has been won by the #HighbullenHotel in North Devon.

Highland courses high on the Leaderboard

THREE of the most prestigious courses in the Highlands have been rated among the 13 best venues to play in Scotland by #GolfWorld magazine.

#RoyalDornochClub is placed 5th, The Nairn Club 12th, and #CastleStuartLinks 13th in the magazine’s list of 100 leading Scottish courses.

All three are part of the Highland Golf Links (HGL) partnership which promotes Play and Stay destination breaks in the area.

The Golf World list was drawn up by a 19-strong panel of its readers which looked at factors including strategic merit, presentation, memorable holes, playability, and visual appeal in making their decisions.

The only other Highland course to feature in the list's top 30 was #SkiboCastle, placed 10th.

Fraser Cromarty, chairman of HGL and CEO at The Nairn Golf Club, said: ‘The three courses are accessible for visitors and can be played over the course of a weekend, making golfing breaks in this part of the world easy to manage and very rewarding.’

The three HGL courses will host the 54-hole Tomatin Single Malt Pro-Am, to be held on September 28-30 this year.

Myrtle Beach … top spot for golf

MYRTLE BEACH, where more than 3.5 million rounds of #golf are played annually, has been recognized as the US’s top golf destination in a poll by #golf.com, one of the world’s largest golf websites.

The Golfers’ Choice Awards polled almost 6,000 travelling golfers over a six-week period; they ranked Myrtle Beach, Carolina, as the ‘Favourite US destination’, ‘favourite US destination for value, and favourite US spot for a trip with golf friends.

The Myrtle Beach and Grand Strand area, stretching for more than 60-miles from Pawleys Island, South Carolina, to North Carolina’s Brunswick County, draws 15.2 million visitors annually.

It has 79 championship standard golf courses.
