Up in the air . . .

HAWAIIAN Airlines and JetBlue today announced an expanded codeshare agreement that allows travelers from dozens of cities, most of them in the eastern U.S., to easily connect to the Hawaiian Islands via Boston's Logan International Airport (BOS) starting in April.

A large number of Americans are using unsanctioned IDs to pass through airport security and board flights, according to survey of 1,000 Americans conducted by Wakefield Research for Acuant, a global provider of identity verification solutions.

Despite current security measures, 60 percent of Americans who have ever been to an airport report they have boarded a plane without proper identification. More than half (51 percent) passed through security using some form of ID that doesn't include a picture at all.

STRONG growth in passenger volume at Ontario International Airport (ONT) continued in September as the number of air travelers who passed through the airport rose 14%, while passenger numbers increased more than 13% in the first nine months of the year.

JetBlue launched nonstop service to New York City in early September. A month earlier, Frontier Airlines began daily service to Florida. Last week, Delta Air Lines announced it will add nonstop service to its Atlanta hub in the spring. Meanwhile, the completion of multi-million dollar upgrades of the airport's dining and retail concessions has brought new, popular amenities to ONT passengers.

JETBLUE is to start #flights from the US to #Cuba on August 31, with one-way fares from $99,

‘It’s a new day for Cuba travellers and one we have thoughtfully prepared for,’ says Marty St. George, one of the airline’s executive vice presidents. ‘We are proud to usher in a new era of Cuba travel with affordable fares and great service.’

New airport for Antigua & Barbuda

ANTIGUA & BARBUDA has opened one of the most modern airports in the #Caribbean. The size of the terminal at the V.C. Bird International Airport has been doubled.

There are four jet bridges, a state-of-the-art baggage sorting and scanning system, 46 check-in counters, 15 self-check-in kiosks, a pet restroom, 30 retail outlets, a VIP lounge, and for very, very important people, a VVIP lounge.

The US$100 million (£62.3 million) development was funded by a China EXIM Bank concessional loan, and by a Chinese government interest-free loan.

JetBlue Airways will begin a direct service to Antigua from New York on November 5, and Alitalia is planning a weekly service from Milan, starting in December.
