#GOLF tour operators will get the chance to explore #Oregon when the 10th annual North America Golf Tourism Convention (NAC) heads to the central region of the Beaver State in 2018.

The event, organized by global golf tourism organization IAGTO, is being staged at Sunriver Resort, near the town of Bend in Central Oregon, from 24-27 June 2018. For state and regional tourism officials it will be a chance to showcase the incredible golf product of Central Oregon: more than 30 courses that, when combined with world-renowned Bandon Dunes on the coast, is set to make Oregon one of the most desirable locations for golf travelers.

“While many know Oregon because of the success of Bandon Dunes, there is much more to the Oregon golf experience – and Central Oregon is a story in itself,” said Teresa O’Neill, Travel Oregon Vice President, Global Sales.

Alana Hughson, CEO of the Central Oregon Visitors Association, added: “Three of the US Top 100 golf courses (Crosswater, Pronghorn and Tetherow) are located in Central Oregon and the PGA Champion's Tour was held at Sunriver's Crosswater from 2007-2010, but our destination offers much more than an award-winning golf experience.

“Bend-Sunriver is famous as an outdoor enthusiasts’ paradise, with world-renowned fly fishing, cycling, hiking and rock climbing, as well as Oregon's famous wineries and microbreweries.”

Solar eclipse tours

THE total solar eclipse will cross into the #USA and the path will cross Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, southern Illinois, Tennessee and South Carolina. Weather statistics indicate that the west has the highest probabilities of clear skies.

A total #solareclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and earth. For two plus minutes, the moon will be black with the sun's corona, or rays of light bending around the moon creating a mystical experience for the observer. The sun will set in all directions. Day turns to night for a couple of minutes.

Tropical Sails Corp has been offering solar eclipse tours since 1991 when they led 35 motorhomes down the Baja Peninsula. Since then they have taken groups to Africa, Australia, Caribbean, China, El Paso, Faroe Islands, Indonesia, Tahiti, and Turkey. This year they have three tours to choose from.

Idaho solar eclipse tour from Salt Lake City - the tour will prepare for the big day touring Idaho and staying in Idaho Falls. On eclipse morning, they will proceed to Rexburg, which is anticipating many observers.

Solar eclipse tour Denver to Mt. Rushmore - the eclipse in Wyoming, Yellowstone and Tetons National Parks ending in Salt Lake City. The 8-day 7-night adventure includes a chuck wagon dinner and a float trip on the Snake River. 

12-day 11-night solar eclipse tour - going from Phoenix, visiting Sedona, the Grand Canyon, the Parks of Utah, the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and off to Mt. Rushmore. The solar eclipse will be seen from the Jackson, WY area.

Finders Keepers

EVERY year in Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast, USA from mid-October through Memorial Day May 29 up to 3,000 handcrafted glass floats made by local artisans are 'dropped' on the seven miles of beach which stretches from Roads End to Siletz Bay - for tourists to find and keep. Special numbered floats are included in the 'drop' the amount relative to the year so this year 2,016 numbered floats can also be found.

The Finders Keepers project began in 1997, when a local artist first thought of glass floats as an intriguing way to launch the new millennium. Lincoln City sponsored the project, hosting the inaugural season in 1999-2000. Tourists came from around the country to search for their own brilliantly-colored, signed and numbered glass float.

The Basic rules of the hunt are simple:

• Floats can be found above the high tide line and below the beach embankment
• Floats are placed on the beach during daylight hours only.
• Floats are hidden throughout the day, not just at one time.
• Floats are out there every day rain or shine. (On rare occasions weather and ocean conditions can create unsafe situations, official notice of any cancellations will be made on our social media channels and website.)

Icelandair starts Portland flights

ICELANDAIR is to start scheduled flights in May from Reykjavik to Portland, Oregon, with easy connections from five UK airports. 

‘We are delighted to begin flights to our newest gateway Portland, to which all our flights from five UK airports will connect in Reykjavik,’ says Andres Jonsson, general manager of Icelandair UK. ‘Our flight to Portland will be the quickest and most convenient way to travel there from the UK. Our passengers can also opt to have an additional stop-over in Iceland en route for up to a week for no additional airfare, to extend their holiday experience.’

Icelandair has daily flights from London Heathrow and regular flights from Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow airports to Reykjavik that connect to 14 onward North American flights.
