ICELANDAIR has announced a second bank of flights, expanding their current network and creating more options for passengers traveling to and from North America and Europe.

The new bank of flights will be in addition to the current Icelandair flight schedule and begin May, 2019. 

Although the second connection bank will be smaller, additional flights will operate to major cities in Europe, including, Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Stockholm, and Zurich. North America will see the second bank option in Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, Toronto and Washington, DC.

TRANSATLANTIC airline, Icelandair, adds some pride to the skies with the launch of its latest special livery, marking 100 years of Icelandic independence and sovereignty. Proud of its rich Icelandic heritage, the airline has transformed one of its Boeing 757-300's into a flying piece of artwork, bearing the Iceland national flag, bringing passengers closer to the nation's history before they even step off the plane.

All of Icelandair's planes are named after Icelandic volcanoes and locations of natural beauty. "Thingvellir," is named after Iceland's breath-taking national park and home of Iceland's first Parliament. It becomes the third in Icelandair's family of special liveries, joining "Hekla Aurora" and "Vatnaokull" which were introduced in 2015 and 2017 respectively and inspired by the northern lights and Europe's second largest glacier.

Football inspired experiences with Icelandair

WIZZ AIR has launched direct flights from Aberdeen to Warsaw. The service will operate the year-round twice weekly service on Monday and Fridays. 

Wizz Air arrived at Aberdeen Airport last year when it launched a twice-weekly service to Gdansk, Poland, in June.

EASYJET has recorded the busiest ski season in its history this year. With a 40 percent share of the UK ski market, easyJet carried 1.3 million passengers to destinations across Europe, 90,000 more than last year. New routes, good ski conditions, and a strong consumer demand have fuelled the growth in customer numbers, the airline said. 

easyJet operates ski flights to Lyon, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Grenoble, Friedrichshafen, Turin, and its largest gateway, Geneva.

ICELANDAIR will take its Glasgow to Reykjavik service daily on September 7. Currently it runs six flights a week between the cities.

Icelandair now offer services to 16 North American gateways with connections from six UK airports: London Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, and Aberdeen.

New UK-Montreal flights

AIR TRANSAT, WOW Air, and Icelandair will all launch new routes from the UK to Montreal, Canada, in May.

Air Transat will launch a route from Glasgow to Montréal opening up the entire Quebec region for Scottish travellers. Flights will depart every Monday beginning May 30, with prices starting from £385 return per person.

WOW Air will be flying from the UK to Montreal via Reykjavik from three UK airports from May 4, with tickets starting from £99 each way.

Icelandair will launch flights from the UK to Montréal via Reykjavik on May 19 four times weekly until November. Prices start from £380 return from five UK airports (London Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, and Aberdeen), and £397 return from London Heathrow.

Icelandair begins flights from Aberdeen

ICELANDAIR is to start a year-round service from Aberdeen to Reykjavik. The gateway will become Icelandair’s second in Scotland and sixth in the UK. Flights will operate four-times weekly.

The flight to Reykjavik will provide connections to Icelandair’s 16 gateways in North America and reduce current travel times by up to several hours.

Icelandair destinations in North America include New York, Orlando, Seattle, Toronto, Chicago, and Montreal.

Flybe to commence Liverpool-Edinburgh route – A domestic route from Liverpool to Edinburgh is being started by Flybe in September.

The daily service from October will be the regional carrier’s fourth route from Liverpool, complementing other services to the Isle of Man, Belfast, and Amsterdam.

Fares start at £27.99 one-way.

Investment deal for Liverpool Airport – A major investment programme for Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport has been announced by its owners, The Peel Group. The operator said it has reached a long-term agreement with the airport’s lenders to underpin investment over the next five years.

The Peel Group said the arrangement will support future growth and has reduced the airport’s bank debt. It has also committed funding to improve the airport’s terminal and passenger facilities.

Ryanair in car hire partnership – Ryanair has launched a partnership with CarTrawler – a travel-technology platform and online aggregator of car rental services – allowing its passengers to book on the airline’s website.

The deal gives customers direct connections to more than 1,500 independent car rental agents in more than 30,000 airport and city locations in 174 countries.

Birmingham-Reykjavik flights doubled

ICELANDAIR is to increase services between Birmingham and #Reykjavik from two flights a week to four, starting in February next year.

The new flights from Birmingham Airport will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays, in addition to the current Monday and Thursday services.

Paul Kehoe, chief executive at Birmingham Airport, said: ‘Passengers are set to enjoy greater choice and flexibility, whether they want to stay in Reykjavik and explore all that it has to offer, or travel on to the US and Canada, using Icelandair’s strong network of connecting flights.’

Icelandair starts Portland flights

ICELANDAIR is to start scheduled flights in May from Reykjavik to Portland, Oregon, with easy connections from five UK airports. 

‘We are delighted to begin flights to our newest gateway Portland, to which all our flights from five UK airports will connect in Reykjavik,’ says Andres Jonsson, general manager of Icelandair UK. ‘Our flight to Portland will be the quickest and most convenient way to travel there from the UK. Our passengers can also opt to have an additional stop-over in Iceland en route for up to a week for no additional airfare, to extend their holiday experience.’

Icelandair has daily flights from London Heathrow and regular flights from Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow airports to Reykjavik that connect to 14 onward North American flights.

New route to Orlando

ICELANDAIR is to resume services to Orlando, Florida, next year. It will run the four times a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

The service will offer connections via Icelandair’s hub in Reykjavik from Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Manchester. Passengers will also be able to stopover in Iceland on their way for up to seven nights for no additional airfare.

Andrés Jónsson, general manager of Icelandair in UK said: ‘This gives British travellers more travel options for their Florida holidays.’
