An arresting museum to visit

WE live in a society where there is a strong fascination of crime, this is apparent by its prevalence in pop-culture. The subject of crime and serial killers is often the topic of books, TV shows and movies. Those who want to learn more about some of the most infamous killers in America should plan a visit to Alcatraz East Crime Museum. 

Visitors of Alcatraz East Crime Museum can expect to see many crime-related artifacts on display, and learn about ways to help prevent crime. Here are 5 infamous killers’ artifacts that are on display at the museum: 

1. Charles Manson Guitar & Beach Boys single “Never Learn Not to Love” – This guitar was recently added to the museum’s collect. It was taken into custody in Inyo County California, during a raid on the Barker Ranch when Charles Manson was also arrested. 

2. Ted Bundy’s 1968 Volkswagen Beetle – The Beetle that was integral in both of his murders and conviction, containing important DNA evidence, is on display for visitors to view. 

3. John Wayne Gacy’s clown suits- “Pogo” and “Patches” – The serial killer was arrested in 1978. He had confessed to killing 30 people. Despite him being a serial killer, he would dress up in clown suits to entertain children. 

4. Judy Buenoano’s last photograph and prison blanket – Convicted of murdering her husband and son, she was also suspected in several other deaths. 

5. Jeffrey Dahmer handcuffs– An American serial killer, he was convicted of the murder of 17 males, which included rape, dismemberment, and cannibalism. His handcuffs are on display at the museum for visitors to view.

Music to your ears

A new route to Music City will be music to traveller’s ears with British Airways’ new service to Nashville.

From May 2018, British Airways will launch a five-a-week service from Heathrow, Terminal 5 and will be the only airline flying direct between Europe and the capital of Tennessee.

The new route takes the number of US destinations the airline flies to from London in summer 2018 up to 26, and the number of daily flights offered by British Airways and American Airlines as part of their transatlantic joint business up to 67 per day.

The route will be operated by a Boeing 787-8, with return fares in World Traveller starting from £749, £1196 in World Traveller Plus and £1849 in Club World available to book now on ba.com.

Solar eclipse tours

THE total solar eclipse will cross into the #USA and the path will cross Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, southern Illinois, Tennessee and South Carolina. Weather statistics indicate that the west has the highest probabilities of clear skies.

A total #solareclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and earth. For two plus minutes, the moon will be black with the sun's corona, or rays of light bending around the moon creating a mystical experience for the observer. The sun will set in all directions. Day turns to night for a couple of minutes.

Tropical Sails Corp has been offering solar eclipse tours since 1991 when they led 35 motorhomes down the Baja Peninsula. Since then they have taken groups to Africa, Australia, Caribbean, China, El Paso, Faroe Islands, Indonesia, Tahiti, and Turkey. This year they have three tours to choose from.

Idaho solar eclipse tour from Salt Lake City - the tour will prepare for the big day touring Idaho and staying in Idaho Falls. On eclipse morning, they will proceed to Rexburg, which is anticipating many observers.

Solar eclipse tour Denver to Mt. Rushmore - the eclipse in Wyoming, Yellowstone and Tetons National Parks ending in Salt Lake City. The 8-day 7-night adventure includes a chuck wagon dinner and a float trip on the Snake River. 

12-day 11-night solar eclipse tour - going from Phoenix, visiting Sedona, the Grand Canyon, the Parks of Utah, the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and off to Mt. Rushmore. The solar eclipse will be seen from the Jackson, WY area.

Palm Springs, Orlando ‘most affordable’ for self-catering holidays

ACCORDING to TripAdvisor’s vacation rentals index, Palm Springs (California) and Orlando (Florida) are the most affordable US spots for self-catering getaways this summer.

The index compares the price of a summer trip for a family of four in 15 popular vacation rental destinations throughout the US, including the combined average costs of a week-long stay in a two-bedroom vacation rental property, a one-day bike rental, basic groceries, and dinner at a restaurant.

Palm Springs is the most affordable destination on the list with a total cost of $1,256 (£737), but it has a slightly more expensive weekly vacation rental rate ($1,035) than Orlando, the second most affordable spot (weekly rental, $1,022).

Gatlinburg (Tennessee), Myrtle Beach (South Carolina), and Sanibel Island (Florida) round out the top five most affordable US resorts for vacation rentals.

At a total cost of $3,661 (£2,140), the ever-fashionable Martha's Vineyard (Massachusetts) is the most expensive destination on the index.

‘For those travelling with family or a group, vacation rentals can be a great way to cut down on accommodation costs while enjoying some of the creature comforts of home,’ said Brooke Ferencsik, director of communications for TripAdvisor.
