Cycle 844 miles around Iceland

ICELAND’S annual WOW #Cyclothon starts on June 15, when cyclists from around the world compete to be crowned the fastest team to pedal around the Ring Road, an 844-mile route looping around the entire country.

Taking place under the midnight sun, the non-stop relay race is the only one of its kind in #Iceland, often completed by the winning team in under 48 hours.

Teams can consist of four or ten riders, who cycle in a relay format non-stop for the entire route, followed by its support vehicle. There is also a solo category for individual cyclists.

Starting in Reykjavik, the route takes riders past Iceland's most stunning landscapes – glaciers, waterfalls, fjords, national parks, and volcanoes. There is an 18-mile gravel section on the route where a mountain bike is required.

As the main race sponsor, WOW Air awards flight tickets as prizes for each member of the winning female and male teams.

Open to cyclists of all abilities with a range of bike types, registration closes on May 1 and costs £395 (ISK70,000) for teams of four, £705 (ISK125,000) for teams of ten, and £170 (ISK30,000) for solo riders.

THE Royal #Malta Yacht Club is anticipating another large fleet for the 36th Rolex Middle Sea Race (MSR) in October. Entries for the 606-nautical mile race are being received, with more than 50 boats from 18 countries already registered.

The race – which starts on October 17 – follows a long yet varied course on which small boats can compete against larger ones … and even win.

The largest number of entries in the #RolexMSR was 122, established last year.
