Vienna at your fingertips

VISITORS to Vienna can now gain access to more than 60 of the city's most popular attractions, tours and museums directly via their smartphones with the newly launched mobile version of the popular #Vienna PASS sightseeing card (www.viennapass.com).

The mobile Vienna PASS places the best of the city at the visitor's fingertips and makes it possible to use the pass within seconds of purchase. An email booking confirmation contains a link to the free Vienna Guide app for iOS or Android devices, which acts as a platform to download the mobile pass. The Vienna PASS customer then simply scans the app's barcode straight from their smartphone to gain entry at a featured attraction.

The app also acts as a digital guidebook, containing full details on all Vienna PASS attractions as well as maps of the city and essential tourist information. Once downloaded, all of the app content including the mobile Vienna PASS is available without an internet connection.

JR East and JR Hokkaido to launch new rail pass

JR East and JR Hokkaido are launching the "JR Tohoku-South Hokkaido Rail Pass," a discount pass for travel in Tohoku and South Hokkaido from February 2018.

The JR Tohoku-South Hokkaido Rail Pass gives you unlimited rides on the Shinkansen and Limited Express trains in the Tohoku and South Hokkaido areas, including Sendai, Aomori, Sapporo, Hakodate, and New Chitose Airport.

It costs 20,000 yen (About £135.00) and is valid for 5 flexible days with reserved seats.

Peak travel pass perks

SWITZERLAND Tourism and the Swiss Travel System have announced that effective January 2018, the Swiss Travel Pass will include even more peaks and perks to its already generous portfolio of offerings.

The new year will see Swiss Travel Pass holders have unlimited access to the Schilthorn, home to the interactive Bond World 007, and Mt Stanserhorn, home to the world’s very first open-top CabriO areal cableway. 

Also from 2018, the Lucerne–Interlaken Express will be listed as the country’s fifth Premium Panoramic Train.  The Lucerne-Interlaken Express travels along a section of the renowned GoldenPass route and the Grand Train Tour of #Switzerland. A journey that takes under two hours across the Brünig Pass, passengers are exposed to incredible views of snow-capped mountains, at least five lakes of the deepest blue and raging waterfalls.

Just the ticket for Scotland

VISITSCOTLAND has partnered with ScotRail and ferry operator CalMac to create a pass offering unlimited travel around the country. The Spirit of #Scotland Travelpass allows people to travel by rail, ferry, and coach for one fixed price.

Passengers do not have to book individual tickets for every journey, and can save money, with a round-trip of Scotland costing 27% less than booking the tickets separately.

The pass will be promoted with a £150,000 marketing campaign across Britain.

Malcolm Roughead, VisitScotland chief executive, said: ‘The Spirit of Scotland Travelpass acts like a special key, unlocking amazing and breathtaking parts of the country to those who visit and live here. Rather than having to think in advance where you might want to go or what you might want to see, you can decide on a whim and end up wherever the wind, or indeed spirit, takes you.
