6 top tourist spots in … Dorset and Somerset

  • Haynes International Motor Museum, Sparkford, Somerset: The largest display of the planet’s greatest cars … 400 of them!

  • Blue Pool, near Wareham, Dorset: A former claypit, the pool is part of the 400-year-old Furzebrook Estate. Replenished by rainwater, it changes colour, from shades of green to deep turquoise. It’s surrounded by 25 acres of unspoiled heathland.

  • Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton, Somerset: Get close and personal with the giants of aviation history, including the first British Concorde.

  • Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum, Tolpuddle, Dorset: Follow the fate of the six farm labourers who in 1834 were convicted and transported to Australia. Their crime? Attempting to form a trade union.

  • Abbotsbury Swannery, Abbotsbury, near Weymouth, Dorset: Established by monks in the 11th century, this is home for 600 to 1,000 swans. You can help to feed them at noon and 4pm daily.

  • Bath, Somerset: Settled by the Romans as a military R&R centre, Bath was left to rot after the fall of Rome. Georgian architects re-invented it and created what was to become a leading city break

destination for aristocrats, entertainers and assorted hangers-on. It’s now Britain’s only World Heritage city, and the only place in the UK where you can bathe in naturally hot spa water. Discover England’s most complete Georgian city!
