Adventure awaits in the Stubai Valley

THE Stubai Tree House Trail is another great addition to the already impressive range of family activities in the Stubai Valley. The new adventure trail in Schlick 2000 expands on Stubai’s outstanding outdoor options. Stretching from Froneben to Vergör, the trail includes five tree houses that invite you to play, climb and discover along the approximately one-hour walk between the middle station of the Kreuzjochbahn and the Alpengasthof Vergör.

Through the forest with Bardin the dwarf, visitors big and small will be received by Bardin directly at the middle station of the Kreuzjochbahn in the Schlick 2000. The dwarf marks the entrance to the nearly 5,000 m² forest area through which the Tree House Trail leads along an easily accessible and pram-friendly route. The roughly two-hour hike covers an ascent of almost 100 metres. And, of course, a few more if you add the five spectacular tree houses along the way.

24 Hours in Cartagena

THE Latin American Travel Association (LATA) have suggested the best way to spend a day in #Cartagena.

The charming colourful city of Cartagena lies of the Caribbean coast. Known for its laid back vibe, friendly locals, music scene and views over the ocean. Visitors can while away a week or two, but for those who only have a day, here’s the best way to spend it.

8 a.m.

To make the most of the day, get an early start. The ocean breeze cools the morning’s pleasant spring-like temperature. Hungry? Swing by Elaine Gomez Lozano’s arepa stand on the corner of Carrera 11 and Calle 38 in the old city. Here, Elaine serves up hearty corn arepas filled with meat and cheese. There are plenty of street stands to grab a freshly squeezed juice or coffee.

9 a.m.

The best way to see the beauty and history of Cartagena is to walk along the wall that surrounds the old town. It has been there for 400 years. Begin the walk on the western side and stroll for 2 miles taking with the ocean on one side and the old town on the other. Don’t feel you need to walk along the entire length in one go. There are lots of little scenic spots to take a rest.

1 p.m.

Seafood features big on the city’s menus. For something light, try a ceviche, a zingy mix of seafood marinated in lime and citrus juices. Street vendors offer ceviche in the old town, but for the best, try La Cevicheria, a tiny eatery on Calle Stuart 714. Be sure to also try the shrimp and octopus salad which is excellent. If the weather’s good, perch on the seats outside.

3 p.m.

Outside the old town lies San Felipe de Barajas fort built by the Spanish. This huge structure dates back to the 16th century to defend the city from sea attacks by pirates. It was later extended in the 17th and 18th centuries. It takes a little time to scramble to the top of the 130-foot fort, but the views are well worth the effort.

6 p.m.

It may seem a bit twee, but a ride on one of the horse-drawn carriages is an excellent way to see the city in style. This is popular at sunset, when the city has an orange glow. Trot around for an hour, take in the delightful colonial architecture and watch the locals. A good time to start snapping on the camera.

8 p.m.

Cartagena seems to have almost limitless restaurant options. It is hard to do better than Don Juan’s on Calle del Colegio. This casual eatery puts Colombian produce at the forefront. Think grilled octopus, bacon and candied potatoes to start, followed by roasted lamb, yucca fries and artichoke aioli. Bliss.

10 p.m.

Cartagena nightlife is legendary and plays an important role in the city. La Vitrola on Calle Baloco feels like the bars out of Old Havana. Grab a stool and sip a cold beer or aguadiente while listening to the sounds of Samba and Cuban music.

Cornwall for a staycation

NUMBER  four on Skyscanners Top Seven Hotspots for 2017, with new year-round flights from around the UK and travellers looking more favourably at UK destinations as a way to make their pound go further, it looks like #Cornwall will be travellers' #staycation favourite in 2017.

Much of the region still waits to be discovered, even by holidaymakers who've been coming here for the cosy fishing villages and Caribbean-esque beaches for quite some time. A region of artistic tradition since before Tate St Ives came on the scene, Cornwall still has a vibrant community of working artists and great independent galleries, inspired by the kind of wild beauty you'll find in abundance around the Bedruthan Steps and Bodmin Moor. Add to this the kind of top culinary names you don't normally see outside London (Rick Stein's acclaimed seafood restaurants in Padstow are just the start), and Cornwall's appeal stretches way beyond Newquay's bubbling surf.

Safety upgrades at Concord Waterfall Grenada

THE Government of #Grenada, through the Ministry of Tourism, continues to make every effort to enhance and to improve safety at our various attraction and recreational sites. As such, work was recently completed at the Concord Waterfall to improve the experience for both locals and visitors, particularly as it relates to safety at the site.

Through collaboration with our various stakeholders improvements included installation of new railings and the erection of a multilingual sign which serves to remind all users to exercise a level of responsibility and safety when enjoying the falls.

Adding to the enhancement and safety of the premier tourist attraction is the inclusion of two inflatable lifeguard rings to assist in cases of emergency. While the physical and safety amenities have been upgraded, quality service delivery will also be addressed.

Bermuda hailed a success after 35th America's Cup

BERMUDA'S successful delivery of the 35th America’s Cup has elevated the destination to a strong position for attracting future sports tourism events and has already helped officials land new events for the island.

Since 2016, nine America’s Cup legacy events – some of them recurring – have been added to Bermuda’s sports tourism calendar. These events coming to the island were positively influenced by the 35th America’s Cup and the 2015 Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series in #Bermuda.

“Using the momentum of the America’s Cup to set the stage for future tourism growth has always been a goal of the Bermuda Tourism Authority. Bermuda is well on her way to accomplishing that goal,” said Bermuda Tourism Authority Chief Executive Kevin Dallas.

Meantime, in the wake of America’s Cup, the Bermuda #Tourism Authority is actively vetting the feasibility of many other sports-related events, including future Superyacht and J Class Regattas similar to the America’s Cup-related events that took place in Bermuda in June.

The 2017 Superyacht Regatta attracted about twice the number of entrants that raced in San Francisco during the 34th America’s Cup, while the convergence of eight J Class boats in Bermuda was the largest gathering in history – even more than raced at any one time in the 1930s and 1940s when the majestic sailing vessels competed for the America’s Cup.
