Malta bets on poker fest

THE Malta Poker Festival at the The Casino, Portomaso, starts on March 17 and runs until March 28, with a record number of tournaments being held and 24-hour cash games.

Michael Holmberg, general manager of PokerStars Europe, said: ‘It’s with great pleasure that we bring the European Poker Tour (EPT) to Malta. We’ve been working behind the scenes for many months to make this event happen, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome poker players from all over the world to the home of PokerStars Europe. Our biggest tournament schedule ever, combined with one of the most favorable climates on the planet, will make EPT Malta a truly memorable event.’

Malta Tourism Authority CEO, Paul Bugeja, said: ‘As Malta’s Tourism Authority (MTA) we are happy to support PokerStars in holding the prestigious European Poker Tour in Malta. This event will definitely provide Malta an opportunity to enhance our reputation in this particular niche. The MTA is supporting this event in order to support the tourism industry in the lean months of the year, while promoting Malta with hundreds of poker players and their families who are expected to visit Malta for this tournament.’

With 69 scheduled tournaments and more than 30 cash game tables available across 12 days, EPT Malta is offering more poker than ever before in the tour’s 11-year history.

The tournament schedule will feature an invitation-only charity poker tournament, the proceeds of which will go toward Right To Play, PokerStars’ official charity partner. Right To Play uses the power of sport and play to transform children’s lives.
