Eurostar prepares to launch ski season 2016 tickets

#SKIERS looking for the best way to travel to the slopes can start planning their winter adventure with Eurostar. The high-speed passenger rail service linking the UK with mainland Europe opens sales this month (July) for its popular service from London St Pancras and Ashford International to the French Alps.

The day and night services offer a generous baggage allowance to carry plenty of ski gear; each passenger can take two suitcases plus hand luggage and skis or snowboards at no extra cost.

The Friday overnight service gives winter sports enthusiasts an extra two days on the pistes, arriving in the #FrenchAlps on a Saturday morning to be welcomed by quieter slopes as other holidaymakers board their coach transfers to and from airports.

The 2015/2016 seasonal ski services will run weekly from December 17 until April 8.

Eurostar launch ski season ticket sales

SKI enthusiasts looking to travel to the slopes by rail can celebrate as #Eurostar offers passengers more routes to the French Alps than ever before. It has opened sales for its direct ski service from London St Pancras and Ashford International.

For the first #skiseason ever, Brits can board the train at London St Pancras or Ashford and be in Lyon – the gateway to the French Alps – in just over four-and-a-half hours.

For those wishing to ski in the Swiss Alps, Eurostar’s connecting service to Geneva via Lille is another way to reach the heart of Switzerland and then onto popular resorts.

The 2015/2016 seasonal ski services will run weekly from December 19 until April 9.

Tips for the slopes

FRENCH self-catering holiday agency Pierre & Vacances has money-saving tips for skiers heading to the slopes this winter …

Bring out the basics and shop in the valley: Buying all the basics in resort can be expensive, but Pierre & Vacances include most cleaning essentials in the welcome pack along with dishwasher tablets, washing-up liquid and other useful items. Those driving out to the resort can stock up with self-catering staples such as pasta, rice, salt, pepper, herbs, and olive oil in advance or shop in the valley where it's cheaper. Alternatively, guests can book a 'basics' kit with the Pierre & Vacances shop in advance service.

Eat local: Guests who prefer not to cook every night can take advantage of Pierre & Vacances catered packages. Guests can enjoy traditional regional cuisine at great prices with three different dining packages available in selected resorts.

Don't skip breakfast: Breakfast is even more important in the mountains to set skiers up for a full day on the slopes. Pierre & Vacances offer a range of pre-bookable options to take the hassle out of breakfast and help skiers make the first lift.

Take a packed lunch: Eating on the mountain can be expensive, so it's a good idea to take a packed lunch.

Special diets: Self-catering is often the best option for those with special dietary requirements or severe allergies. It's not always easy to buy lactose- or gluten-free ingredients in ski resorts, so it's advisable to take these kinds of items with you. Few French mountain restaurants will cater for special diets, so inquire beforehand.

Where to stay: Pierre & Vacances has added the new five-star Les Terrasses d'Helios in Flaine Montsoleil to its Premium Mountain collection, which spans 13 of the French Alps' most prestigious and popular resorts.
