Brewing up some Halloween fun

LOOKING for scary good fun? The travel experts at The GO Group, LLC found these events brewing across the U.S.

The Ken's Korny Corn Maze is N. Carolina's first and longest operating corn maze. The Maze opens September 28 and runs every weekend until November 10.

In Philadelphia, test your nerves at Eastern State Penitentiary's Terror Behind the Walls, a spooky haunted house inside an abandoned prison. The event includes Hollywood-quality special effects and lighting, digital sound, animatronic creatures and custom props. Open until November 10.

Boo at the Zoo in St. Louis offers kid-friendly events with haystacks, pumpkins and souvenir T-shirts complete with a costumed grizzly bear dressed as Wonder Woman.

On Halloween for two decades, Voodoo Authentica, New Orleans, has hosted Voodoo Fest in the French Quarter. On-site priests will speak and teach Voodoo, Louisiana's version of the faith, and the music and spirituality associated with the Lwa — the spirits of the Voodoo pantheon.

Get your frightening fill of creepy creatures and underwater Halloween happenings at SEA LIFE Grapevine Aquarium in Dallas. Watch trained costumed divers compete to see who can carve the best jack-o-lantern underwater surrounded by sea creatures on Wednesdays and Saturdays, October 17-31. Plus, trick-or-treat alongside sharks, crocodiles and other eerie creatures on October 31.

Festival of Frights

THIS Halloween season, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood (WBSTH) will send chills down guests' spines with the return of Horror Made Here: A Festival of Frights. This year's event will host even more dark mazes, scare zones, horror-themed activities.

The Neibolt House maze from New Line Cinema's record-breaking 2017 film IT will return to Horror Made Here, where guests will experience the full wrath of Pennywise. This year's reimagined maze will feature new scares and surprises with every twist and turn. Those daring enough to step into the Neibolt House must remember that "It knows what scares you" and beware of Pennywise, who may be lurking in the dark just around the corner.

From DC, fans will experience the iconic and unhinged characters from Batman: Arkham Asylum as the infamous Gotham City institution for the criminally insane is constructed, for the first time ever, on the Warner Bros. backlot. In this brand-new maze, guests must first face their judge, The Joker, who will decide their fate, leading to encounters with his fellow DC Super-Villains – including Harley Quinn, Scarecrow, and Two-Face, among others – as visitors are driven to the brink of madness while navigating the gruesome asylum.

Horror Made Here: A Festival of Frights is a special ticketed event, held on October 5-6, October 11-13, October 18-21 and October 25-28, open from

Scarefest - Do you dare?

ALTON Towers Resort’s award-winning Scarefest event is returning for 2017, promising to deliver more spine-tingling terror than ever before. This year, a brand new Scare Maze, The Welcoming: Be Chosen, joins the terrifying line-up, set to not only be a petrifying experience in itself, but also providing a first glimpse into the Resort’s new attraction for 2018, currently codenamed ‘Secret Weapon 8’

Scarefest is the UK’s biggest and best #Halloween event for all ages and this year sees the return of award winning Scare Mazes from previous years: Sub Species: The End Games, Altonville Mine Tours and Terror of the Towers – as well as the spooky walkthrough experience for families with children aged 8+, House Of Monsters, introduced last year.

The park’s rides and attractions also stay open until 9pm every single night, meaning visitors can enjoy the added thrill of taking on these breathtaking rides in the dark.

Scarefest 2017 will take place every day from 20th to 31st October at #AltonTowers Resort. Visit altontowers.com/scarefest for more information and to book tickets.

Haunted Castles and Spooky Family Fun in Denmark

#DENMARK is famed worldwide for its cosy, warm and friendly atmosphere – and the ‘hygge’ is at its best during the chilly Danish autumn and winter, making it the perfect time to visit. But at Halloween, the cosiest country in the world transforms for frights and fun.

Valdemar’s Castle, a stunning palace on the island of TÃ¥singe near Svendborg, in southern Denmark, will have a series of spooky Horror Nights from 29 September until 4 November. With several ‘horror zones’ to explore – everything from a war zone to a horrific hospital and mysterious dark forest – be prepared to be scared! There is also ‘The Mind-Blowing Horror Show’ starring Martin Castor, an international show hypnotist with a scarily sharp ability for modern psychological entertainment, mentalism and mind reading.

Esrum Kloster, north of Copenhagen, is hosting an All Saints Evening on 4 November, where guests will be transported to the dark Middle Ages. The darkened monastery will be filled with vivid lights and eerie soundscapes. Enjoy snacks and nibbles while you explore the monastery and walk alongside the souls of the dead. Perhaps even encourage them to let go of this world and move to the ‘other side’.

From 14 October to 22 October, Egeskov Castle, between Odense and Svendborg, will be hosting fun and spooky treasure hunts for children aged 6–12. Meet mysterious creatures and witches as you make your way through a quest to help Count Dracula find his way back to the crypt where he belongs. Egeskov will be decorated for Halloween with pumpkins all over the gardens. The castle grounds also offer holiday cottages for rent and a free campsite.

On 31 October, enjoy All Saints’ Eve at Gammel Estrup – the Old Estrup Manor House Museum located in beautiful natural surroundings 40km from Aarhus. This special night will feature ghost stories by candlelight, atmospheric tours of the dark cellars and the chance to walk through beautifully illuminated paths in the Baroque garden.

#HALLOWEEN events for all ages are taking place at Rhondda Heritage Park this October - from the ‘slightly spooky’ to the ‘very scary.’

The Council’s popular family tourist attraction is set to be transformed for a limited period - and is a must for thrill seekers.

There will also be traditional events taking place for families and younger visitors, including Pumpkin Carving, a Pumpkin Hunt, Face Painting, Arts and Crafts and the Energy Zone childrens’ outdoor adventure park.

#XScream, the event that scared the living daylights out of visitors last Halloween, returns to the Rhondda Heritage Park this October, bigger, better and even scarier than before!

XScream, a fully immersive scare experience featuring live actors, special effects and horrific shocks that will keep you trembling at every twist and turn, promises to be ‘nine nights of terror.’

‘Altonville Mine Tours: uncover the legend of the Skin Snatchers’

‘Terror of the Towers: What Lies Within’ maze returns, taking those who enter through the undiscovered passageways of gothic towers to discover the dark secrets that await.

After dark #AltonTowers Resort will also become home to two Scare Zones, Dark Apocalypse and the new Freak Show, each filled with its own free-roaming, gruesome and truly chilling residents.
