Cheers to the New Year

IN addition to dazzling palm-fringed and white-sand beaches to unwind on, neighbouring islands to explore, and cultural sights for the Instagram feed – visiting #KohSamui during New Year’s Eve presents a bonus for guests with the perfect backdrop of fireworks over the ocean. The rule of thumb in Samui is the bigger the beach, the bigger the fireworks. The famous Chaweng Beach, on which Amari Koh Samui is located, features numerous lively party spots and is certainly the place to experience the most colourful and festive celebrations.

Amari Koh Samui, located on a secluded stretch of Chaweng Beach, offers a New Year's Eve Package, which includes a New Year's Eve Gala Dinner on 31 December 2017, round-trip transfers to and from Samui International Airport, daily breakfast at Amaya Food Gallery and more.

The package is available for a minimum three-night stay in a Superior Garden Wing King room, starting at £261 per night and is valid for stays from 25 December 2017 to 10 January 2018.

Tickets on sale for New Years Eve fireworks in London

TICKETS for London’s world-famous New Year’s Eve fireworks went on sale on Friday 29 September at 12 noon.  This year’s stunning spectacle will once again be focused around the Coca-Cola London Eye on the River Thames.

More than 3,000 people, from pyrotechnicians to stewards, work together to ensure that the capital’s celebrations run smoothly and are the most dazzling on the planet. The renowned pyrotechnic and lighting display will feature more than 12,000 fireworks, 2,000 lighting cues and 30 tonnes of equipment on three barges.

While Big Ben’s famous ‘bongs’ have fallen silent during vital renovation works this year, the unmistakeable bell will sound to kickstart the fireworks, ringing in the New Year in true London style.  As well as being enjoyed by more than 100,000 spectators in the viewing areas, the display is watched by over 12 million broadcast viewers on TV, promoting London as global capital of tourism and culture.

Up in smoke!

THE British Fireworks Championships return with a very big bang this year on August 12/13.

Phtography by Chance Agrella
Exploding with tens of thousands of rockets and spectacular mortars, the very best of the country's firework display teams take on one another for the grand title in what is one of the biggest annual displays put on by professional firework companies in the UK.

Spectacular performances start each night just as darkness falls on the Hoe. Entertainment – other than that provided by the four tonnes of fireworks – includes a traditional fairground.

Despite varying weather conditions over the years – and even a WW2 bomb being found on the site – the event has successfully taken place every year since it started in 1997, although in 2012 the judges decided not to name a winner after gale force winds limited the scope of some of the displays on the second night.

Firework show for St. Michael's Mount

THE 60-YEAR partnership between the National Trust and the family that has lived on St. Michael's Mount in Cornwall since the 17th century is to be marked with a massive firework display on August 12.

Untitled © T / Attribution-ShareAlike

The National Trust has owned most of the island and the causeway since 1954 as a result of a gift by the St. Aubyn family, which has lived in the castle since the 1650s.

The trust is responsible for the conservation and upkeep of St Michael's Mount while the family runs the castle day-to-day, opening it to the public and welcoming visitors to their extraordinary island home.

The firework display, staged with St Michael's Mount as its dramatic backdrop, will be designed to be viewed from the mainland in Marazion, and will start as dusk falls at 9.45pm.
