Australia launches international tourism drive
TOURISM AUSTRALIA has launched its latest campaign, which is focused on highlighting the country’s world-class aquatic and coastal experiences.
The agency’s managing director, John O’Sullivan, said the campaign would focus on one of Australia’s key competitive advantages. ‘Already 70 percent of our international visitors enjoy an aquatic or coastal experience as part of their trip to #Australia, so this is a campaign we know will resonate strongly across all our key markets.
‘While Australia is known for its natural beauty, the world still doesn’t have a full appreciation of the breadth, depth, and quality of our aquatic and coastal experiences. They’ve always been an important part of our destination story but they’ve never before taken centre stage.’

The campaign will sit alongside and complement existing Tourism Australia marketing activities, including its current promotion of food and wine and indigenous experiences.
The newly-filmed campaign features more than a dozen distinct experiences representing every Australian state and territory. These include: swimming in Sydney Harbour; snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef; kayaking through Katherine Gorge; driving on the beach in South Australia; cycling around Lake Burley Griffin; sailing through the waters of Rottnest Island; and walking the recently-launched Three Capes Track in Tasmania.
Tourism Australia will spend A$40 million (£19.6 million) over the next six months rolling out the new campaign – starting in the US with a joint campaign with Virgin Australia and then across other key international markets, including the UK, China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and New Zealand.

Visitors tuck in as NSW food and wine provides huge boost to economy
NEW SOUTH WALES has shown it is a food-lover’s paradise: the results of the state government’s campaigns featuring food and wine have delivered an additional domestic and international visitor spend of more than A$20 million in the last 12 months.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said: ‘NSW is enjoying somewhat of a food and wine tourism revolution with more visitors coming to our state to enjoy our award-winning beers, ciders, wineries, fresh produce, and world-class restaurants.
‘With the development and regeneration of urban areas, as well as a focus on local product, Sydney and NSW is experiencing a restaurant renaissance.’
Destination NSW chief executive officer Sandra Chipchase said the promotion of food and wine experiences had become an integral part of the agency’s marketing campaigns, with NSW boasting world-class dining experiences for visitors. ‘More than 36,000 agents globally took part in NSW food and wine training and more than 70 new food and wine packages were delivered to our priority international markets including Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore, New Zealand, USA, India, and the UK.’

Bumper weekend of events set for Sydney
#SYDNEY is set for a bumper weekend of events in August when the #BledisloeCup clash, the #NetballWorldCup, and The Good Food and Wine Show take place (August 7-9) at the city’s Olympic Park.
In the ultimate trans-Tasman battle, the Qantas Wallabies meet against arch rivals the New Zealand All Blacks at the ANZ Stadium on August 8 to try to win back the Bledisloe Cup after a 13-year drought.
The rivalry continues on August 9 when the Aussies and Kiwis battle it out at the Allphones Arena in the round robin stage of The Netball World Cup, which returns to Sydney for the first time in more than two decades.
Food and wine lovers can look in at the #GoodFoodandWine Show at the Sydney Showground (August 7-9), when local and international exhibitors show their wares.
