THE annual November LGBTQI+ entertainment and cross-art event GFEST – Gaywise FESTival will be launched on Monday the 12 November at Alexandra Palace, Palm Court. GFEST 2018 events will be listed on the website: https://gaywisefestival.org.uk

This year’s festival theme is #SociallyEQUAL and the organisers are proud to present a free entry entertainment evening full of live acts presenting music, dance, acapella, performance poetry at the launch.

Out in India

SPECIALIST travel company, OUT in INDIA, comes out to support LGBT travellers to India. On September 6, 2018, India’s Supreme Court ruled that gay sex is no longer a criminal offence and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is a fundamental violation of rights. 

Until now, #India was one of more than 70 countries where homosexuality is criminalised. Product & Marketing Director, Out in India, Mark Snoxell, made comment “For a number of reasons, many LGBT travellers boycott countries where being gay is illegal, so now we can expect the interest to grow quickly.”

London City Airport raises the flag

TO mark this year’s London Pride Festival, London City Airport is proudly displaying the Pride rainbow flag at the front of its passenger terminal.

The recognisable symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) pride and LGBT social movements will remain in place for the duration of the Festival, until Sunday 9 July.

Michael Spiers, Chief People Officer at London City Airport, said:

“The Pride flag represents the open and inclusive values of London City Airport, both for our staff and our 4.5 million annual passengers. “This is a colourful addition which we hope passengers will recognise, acknowledge, and share pictures of, as they arrive or depart in to London, one of the most vibrant cities in the world.”

The Pride in London 2017 Parade takes place in central London on Saturday 8 July. Any passengers flying in to Pride via London City Airport can reach the West End in just over 30 minutes, with the airport located around 8 miles away.

Invitational Campaign Encourages Travel for WorldPride 2019

NEW YORK City’s official destination marketing organization, has joined with Heritage of Pride, organizers of #NYC Pride, to formally announce the two-year countdown to WorldPride 2019. 

Set to take place in #NewYorkCity in June 2019, the global celebration of Pride will coincide with the historic 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots—the birthplace of the modern gay rights movement—making it a year to underscore New York City’s progress and resilience as a global #LGBTQ capital. 

The announcement was made as New York City’s 2017 Pride celebrations are currently underway this week. A new invitational campaign, titled “One World, One Pride, One New York City – Unite in 2019” launched yesterday in New York City, with additional promotion and activations taking place in Madrid during the upcoming WorldPride celebrations there June 23–July 2.

Ibiza named Europe's most LGBT friendly beach destination

#IBIZA has been named as the most LGBT friendly beach destination in Europe, followed by the Costa del Sol, Corfu, and Costa Brava. 

Mykonos, often considered the gay capital of Europe, was named only the fifth most LGBT friendly destination, according to a survey by On the Beach.

On the Beach marketing officer, Alistair Daly, said: ‘Spain has always been a very popular destination for the LGBT community and with so many Pride events held throughout the year, it’s easy to see why.

Malta promoted for gay travel

MALTA’S tourism authority has launched a campaign in the US and Canada promoting the island as a ‘winter escape for the #LGBTtraveller’. 

‘LGBT travellers have long been associated with higher-spending brackets of worldwide tourism flows,” says a #Malta Tourist Authority (MTA) spokesman said. ‘This niche has the characteristics of being well-educated, frequent travellers, higher net income earners with a propensity to travel all year round.’

The MTA began targeting gay travellers, focusing particularly on the winter months, last year in the German-speaking market before expanding to the US and Canada this year. Further initiatives are planned for Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK, and Scandinavia.

The Gay European Tourism Association estimates the value of the gay tourism market in Europe at €50 billion (£39. 4 billion) a year, while a study in Philadelphia found that for every dollar invested in marketing gay tourism returned $153 (£109) in spending on shops, hotels, restaurants, and attractions.

Do your holiday research, gay couples urged

LESBIAN, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) couples have been urged to take care researching their holiday destinations after a third said they were subjected to negative comments while away.

John Heppenstall, head of consular campaigns at the UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office, said: ‘All couples looking to book and travel abroad for their honeymoon have an abundance of great destinations to choose from. But it’s important for same-sex couples to be aware that attitudes towards lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender travellers vary considerably around the world and can be very different from those in the UK. Our most important piece of advice is to always fully research your destination before booking.’
