Wizz Air reaches 100 million passengers milestone

WIZZ AIR has carried its 100 millionth passenger, 11 years after operating its first flight between Poland and Britain.

The 100 millionth passenger travelled on the Luton to Warsaw route, a milestone marked by the airline giving away free flights to all on board.

Chief executive József Váradi said: ‘We operated our first flight in 2004 between #Poland and the UK, and today, 11 years later, we celebrate a total of 100 million passengers carried from over 110 airports across 38 countries. We are celebrating at all our six Polish airport bases because 40% of our phenomenal growth was made with our Polish customers and their visitors.

‘We remain committed to grow passenger traffic in all the Polish regions we fly to, and to continuously offer our customers new opportunities to travel, whether on business, leisure, or to unite with their families.

Luton Airport’s plan for high speed London rail link

A PLAN for a fast rail link is reportedly being prepared by Luton Airport to give passengers access to the centre of London within 20 minutes.

Passengers currently take a 20-minute train to Luton Airport Parkway station, but the total journey time to the can be more than doubled by having to change, wait, and travel the last mile by bus.

Nick Barton, Luton’s chief executive is working on a plan to get the airport connected properly to the rail network.

‘The bus service meets the basic criteria,’ he told The Times. ‘The plan is to come up with a long-term solution. The options are a mass passenger system which could be light rail or heavy rail. We know the need. Connectivity is the priority.

‘The ownership [and funding] of a rail link would have to be something we work out. But everyone knows a better link is in everyone’s interest.’
The airport has started a £100 million project that will increase its passenger capacity by 50% to 18 million.

Luton airport passenger numbers grow for 11th consecutive month

LUTON is the latest UK airport to record a rise in passenger numbers in February, with a 14.4% increase.

This follows a record-breaking year in 2014 and marks 11 months of consecutive growth.

Further increases are expected this year, with Wizz Air – the second-largest carrier at the airport – announcing a new service to Ohrid, Macedonia, from June.

The rise in demand is being met by a £100 million project that will increase annual capacity from 12 million to 18 million passengers by 2026.

£100 million upgrade plan for Luton Airport

LUTON AIRPORT has secured a £100 million revamp to increase its capacity to 18 million passengers a year.

The investment will be put into a larger and more modern terminal that will add 15 immigration lanes, nine luggage belts, and more shops and airport lounges. A new taxiway for aircraft means it will be able to handle more flights.

The changes will be made over the next 12 years in three phases.
