Up the hill, over the ocean

WITH the surf – and surfers and sailors – in mind, this holiday house on the North Cornish coast has must-have mod cons for water enthusiasts, plus draw-dropping ocean views. Called Corduroy, it’s so new that it’s still being built.

It will be open for guests in July, but it’s open for bookings now.

On a hillside close to Polzeath and Daymer Bay, the five-bedroom house will have:

· An outdoor heated shower

· A wet kit drying area

· Two patios for al fresco dining

The house will be managed by Latitude 50, which has a portfolio of self-catering properties in Rock, Daymer Bay, Polzeath, and Port Isaac.

Cornish conversion

FORMERLY used as a granary and milling house, #GreatBodieveBarn near Wadebridge, North #Cornwall, has been turned into four self-catering holiday cottages that retain much of the character of the original building.

The Goose House sleeps two, Granary and Orchard Cottages each sleep four, and the Mill House sleeps eight … and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

The houses are close to some of the best beaches in Cornwall – including Polzeath, Daymer, and Harlyn Bay – and to many of the locations used in the Poldark telly series. Bodmin Moor featured in the films, and the filming for some of the cliff scenes was done in the Padstow area with shots across the Camel Estuary and Tregirls Beach.

Leisure activities in the area include boat trips, angling, golf, horseriding, waterskiing, surfing, and cycling.

Videos to help visitors discover Cornwall

A SERIES of films showcasing Cornwall’s finest #food-and-drink establishments and landscapes has been made by UK holiday lettings company, Sykes Cottages.

The videos feature interviews with staff from some of Cornwall’s leading #foodie businesses – from beachside cafes to Michelin-starred restaurants.

There are four short films for each of Cornwall’s main regions – north, south, west, and Bodmin Moor and Tamar Valley – plus a fifth which comprises a taster from each region
to give viewers a whistle-stop tour of the county.

Charlotte Stamper from Sykes Cottages says: ‘We made these videos to help show off some of the fantastic food and drink that #Cornwall has to offer. The huge range of cafes, pubs, restaurants, and talented internationally-renowned chefs help make a holiday to Cornwall even more special. Coupled with this, there are some wonderful farmers’ markets, vineyards, and shops supplying local produce that makes cooking in your holiday cottage a #gastronomic treat.’

The films – which can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3SC31jNS6ULoEnLqKiVDewD5_q_rzCQr are part of the Discover Cornwall online guide.

Breaks in the barns

VENN FARM, a seven-acre smallholding four miles from Bude and North Cornwall’s beaches, has two barn conversions for self-catering holidays.

The Cob, designed by award-winning architects Feilden Fowles and finished in 2012, is a superior barn conversion offering luxurious yet family-friendly accommodation. It sleeps nine, plus cots.

The Red Barn, a contemporary conversion, has a sun-flooded open-plan living space upstairs, overlooking a meadow. Below are two bedrooms and a bathroom. It sleeps four, plus a cot.

The farm - www.venn-farm.co.uk - is between two nature reserves that have an abundance of wildlife, including roe deer, buzzards, woodpeckers, and barn owls.
