Up in the air . . .

LONDON Gatwick is gearing up for its busiest summer on record, with 8,846,000 people set to use the airport during the school holidays. It follows a successful June at #Gatwick, which saw 4.5 million passengers travelling through, with the airport’s long-haul routes growing by +26% year-on-year.

Gatwick’s Canadian routes performed particularly well, in the month that saw world leaders visiting the country for this year’s G7 summit. Winnipeg grew by +66.3% in June, with Edmonton +28.2%, Montreal +23.8% and Calgary +13%.

Other long-haul routes that experienced significant year-on-year growth in June included Lima and Kigali, while emerging short-haul destinations Volos and Tallin also saw large growth rates.

Fly worldwide with easyJet and Norwegian

PASSENGERS will be able to book an easyJet short-haul flight and self-connect to a Norwegian long-haul flight in one simple transaction.

Norwegian is partnering with easyJet on the new ‘Worldwide by easyJet’ platform, allowing passengers to connect a Norwegian long-haul flight with an easyJet short-haul flight in one single booking.

Launched by easyJet, ‘Worldwide by easyJet’ allows passengers to seamlessly connect their easyJet flight with other partner airline flights, including Norwegian’s fast-growing network of affordable long-haul flights to the U.S, Asia and South America.

Face-to-face airline seats concept unveiled

PASSENGERS could be forced to face one another in an aircraft seating plan designed to make better use of cabin space, reports The Times in London.

The design for short-haul flights features alternating forward- and backward-facing seats placed side by side.

Industry supplier Zodiac Seats France says the aim of the design is to ‘increase the space available at the shoulder and arm area’. It will also create room for more seats.

The lightweight seats would be built with televisions and foldable tray tables in the back, and the design would comply with industry standards for aisle space.

The company said that the industry had shown strong interest in the concept of its economy class cabin hexagon seating configuration.

Expecting … and flying?

ACCORDING to recent advice published by Britain’s Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the safest time to fly when pregnant is before 37 weeks or, if carrying twins, before 32 weeks.

With this in mind, Airport Parking and Hotels (APH) has created a guide to help expectant mothers plan ahead by comparing the different airline policies for pregnant travellers.

The research is available in a comprehensive guide and can be found in the Know Before You Go section of the APH website at www.aph.com/pregnanttravellers.

The research compares the policies for pregnant travellers across 20 major airlines and highlights the short-haul and long-haul flight restrictions, the policies and documents required for medical clearance, as well as the different reasons why travelling might be denied.
