Cork underground in Paris

ADS highlighting Cork are running in the metro stations of Paris right now – part of a new Tourism Ireland campaign in conjunction with Aer Lingus and Cork Airport, to promote flights from Paris to Cork and to grow French tourist numbers to the South of Ireland this year.

The ads are running on around 137 screens in the metro stations across the French capital and will be seen by more than 10 million people. The campaign also includes online advertising on popular websites – highlighting Cork Airport as an important gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland’s Ancient East.

An Irish connection with Delta and Norwegian Airlines

DELTA Air Lines is now offering daily nonstop service to Boston’s Logan Airport from Dublin. The daily flight to Boston, which will operate throughout the summer, joins Delta’s existing services from the Irish capital — a year-round operation to New York-JFK, plus a summer offering to Atlanta. 

NORWEGIAN Airlines has begun new nonstop service to Providence, Rhode Island, from Belfast, Cork, Dublin, Edinburgh and Shannon beginning in June. They are also now offering flights from Hartford Bradley International Airport in Connecticut to Edinburgh, Scotland.

Aer Lingus extra daily flight from Cork to London Heathrow

THIS summer there will be five daily services from Cork to London from Monday to Saturday. The extra daily flights will run from Monday 19 June until Saturday 26 August. 

The extra flight will leave London Heathrow for Cork at 12 noon and arrive at 13.20. The return afternoon flight will depart from Cork at 14.30 and touch down in London Heathrow at 16:00.

THE US Department of Transportation has approved Norwegian Air International's (NAI) application for a foreign carrier permit, a Norwegian spokesperson said:

"We welcome the long overdue news that Norwegian Air International (NAI) has been awarded a foreign carrier permit by the US Department of Transportation.

"This approval finally makes it possible for us to plan the Cork to the U.S. routes we, and many others, have been looking forward to. We also now look forward to our foreign carrier permit for Norwegian Air UK (NUK) being approved next.

Aer Lingus launches Cork-Leeds Bradford flights

AER LINGUS REGIONAL has introduced thrice-weekly flights – operated by Stobart Air – from Leeds Bradford Airport to Cork in southern Ireland.

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford Airport’s aviation development director, said: ‘We expect regional businesses to take advantage of this new route, and for those wanting a short break or holiday, Cork will not disappoint. With great food and lively entertainment, you can be sure of a warm welcome. We expect this route to become a firm favourite for Yorkshire visitors.’

The move comes as Aer Lingus Regional seeks to increase its passenger numbers at Cork by 60,000 in 2016 as part of an expansion under which it had announced two new routes at the airport and re-launches a third at Shannon.

Cork-London City flights to start

IRISH airline CityJet is to start flights between Cork and London City Airport in October.

The airline says it will fly three times daily on week-days, with its first flight from Cork departing at 7.40am. There will be one flight on Saturdays and two on Sundays from Cork.

CityJet’s executive chairman Pat Byrne said: ‘We believe the Cork to London City route has significant potential and indications are that there are many travellers, both business and leisure, who want the fast access and hassle-free experience that London City Airport offers.’

The Dublin-based airline said that Cork and the greater Munster region had significant potential for flights directly into London.

Irish Rail reveals ambitions for Dublin Airport

IRISH RAIL has revealed plans to run trains direct from Dublin Airport to Cork, Galway, and Belfast.

Irish Rail chief executive, David Franks, said the development could cost €300 million (£223.2 million) while providing a significantly boost for tourism.

“One of the biggest contributions we can make to the economy is moving people over long distances and into city centres fast,” said Franks.
