The Czech Republic Celebrates 100 Years in 2018

THE Czech Republic invites tourists from around the world to commemorate the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918 following the end of World War I. To mark the one-hundredth anniversary, hundreds of cultural, social and sporting events will take place throughout the year that highlight the period known as the First Republic, that is, the twenty years between the First and Second World Wars.

Czechoslovakia was founded in the aftermath of World War I as one of the successor states of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Central European country then existed (with a brief interlude during World War II) from October 28, 1918 to December 31, 1992, before officially splitting on January 1, 1993 to form the independent Czech and Slovak Republics.

In 2018, both countries will be celebrating one-hundred years of existence and commemorating all that they have shared with the world together.

Marvel, Learn and Engage in Prague

AT the intersection of art and literature, past and future, the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art’s newest installation, the Gulliver Airship, invites visitors to enter and ponder all of the above.

Looming above the gallery, this creation, envisioned by DOX’s founder Leoš Válka and created by architect Martin Rajniš, is constructed in the iconic shape of a 42 meter (~46 yard) zeppelin out of steel and wood. Although the Airship’s exterior is both a permanent complement to DOX’s rotation of provocative exhibitions and contrast to its stark design, its interior provides a unique space for visitors to pause and reflect.

As a work of art and architecture, Gulliver is notable in the Holešovice district skyline for its modern arched shape and construction of wood and steel, and is breathtaking from both inside and out. the cavernous Gulliver Airship, capable of seating 120 people, will provide a space for a rich program of events, speakers, and workshops for tourists and the #Prague community to discuss works of writing thematically tied to DOX’s exhibitions.

Discover Prague In A Different Way

THE project Prague Unknown shows #Prague as a city of various faces and undiscovered alleys. It offers guided tours off the beaten tracks, walks through narrow paths and abandoned pasageways. Thanks to Prague Unkown you can visit places most people haven’t heard of and discover Prague in a different way. Prague Unkown can also take you to districts with connection to the old industrial architecture and many more unusual places.

One of the specialties is a walk through the picturesque district called New World near the Prague Castle, which tourists usually don’t visit and most of Prague inhabitants haven't heard of. Prague Unkown team calls it a Prague Montmartre, simply because it is where all kind of interesting artists, such as graphic designers, photographers, painters, animators and many more reside in tiny houses. No wonder there are many unique buildings such as the only log house in the heart of Prague.

Another tour offers a look at a Czech rarity – cubism in architecture! You may know this style from different fields such as painting or scuplture, its connection with architecture is a Czech thing worth looking at because houses designed in cubism manner are not to be found anywhere else in the world.

Wine tasting in the Czech Republic

IF
you're looking for some wine experiences, come to
Brno in the Czech Republic  on November 11 to take part in the traditional St. Martin’s Day Dégustation.

The Moravian capital of Brno is the second largest city in the #CzechRepublic and gateway to the fertile vineyards of South Moravia. St. Martin’s wine is the Czech equivalent of French Beaujolais, the first wine of the new year, fresh, young and fruity, aged for just a few weeks and recommended for consumption before Easter by winemakers.

This event is the largest tasting of St.Martin’s wines and is preceded by a wine blessing in Sts. Peter and Paul’s Cathedral at Petrov, and a follow-up parade with St. Martin at the forefront, leading through the town centre as far as náměstí Svobody (Freedom Square). The official opening of the first bottle will take place at 11 am. Up to 100 types of St. Martin’s wine can be found here for tasting and it is possible to buy whole bottles from the attending wine-makers.

For the price of admission you will get a glass, wine sample catalogue and several tasting coins. And while treating your taste buds, you can indulge in listening to cymbal music.
