THOMAS COOK, one of the UK’s leading holiday companies has tripled the number of flights to #Turkey from Cardiff Airport for summer 2018, following a pick-up in demand for holidays to the #destination this summer.

The introduction of a weekly flight to Antalya and a second weekly flight to Dalaman from Cardiff means those in Wales and nearby counties will have even more choice and flexibility for next year’s summer getaways. Available to book now, the new Antalya and Dalaman flights will operate on Fridays, starting 4 May 2018 and 25 May 2018 respectively.

Turkey has been the third most popular destination for Brits this summer, appealing to holidaymakers looking for high quality and good value.

Foreign spend in Britain booms

INTERNATIONAL visitors have spent an extra £2.5 billion in Britain during the last four years, says VisitBritain. 

This beats the target set for it by the UK Government in 2011 by more than half a billion pounds, and means that every £1 invested in VisitBritain’s activities has resulted in an overseas visitor spending £21. 

VisitBritain has delivered an additional £630 million, thanks to its role as a partner in the cross-UK Government GREAT campaign.

Overall inbound tourism, Britain’s third largest service export and one of its fastest-growing, was worth more than £26 billion to the UK economy in 2013. The industry is also a major job creator; every 22 additional Chinese visitors create an additional job in the sector.

Bulgaria ‘best value’ for in-resort costs

RESORT prices in Bulgaria are among the cheapest across Europe, while costs in Italy and inflation-hit Turkey have soared, a study by Post Office Travel Money has shown.

Sunny Beach in Bulgaria emerges as the best value of 14 European resorts surveyed. Prices there have fallen for the second year running and at £37.39 the barometer basket of tourist staples – lunch and evening meals, drinks, suncream, insect repellent and a daily newspaper – now costs 28% less than two years ago.

But the biggest price falls over the past year have been in the Algarve, Portugal. This has been helped by continuing strength of the pound against the euro. A fall in the cost of eating out contributed to a 22% drop in the price of typical tourist purchases, making the Algarve 8% cheaper than third-placed Costa del Sol.

Prices remain high in Italy, with Sorrento being the most expensive of the 14 resorts surveyed. Rising prices have offset the benefit of the powerful pound.

Successive Post Office reports have noted price cuts in Cyrus, and the latest barometer reveals a fall of 12.1% since last spring in Paphos and more than 30% compared with 2013. As a result, Cyprus is the fourth best value destination overall and best value in the eastern Mediterranean.

The Greek Islands are also offering good value with Crete and Corfu showing price falls of 14.1% and 19.7% respectively.

Top cities for romance!

IN a survey of more than 2,000 Londoners by travel money provider International Currency Exchange, Paris, Rome, and Venice were voted the most romantic holiday cities in Europe. 

Paris also scored highly for value for money, just behind Amsterdam, which was voted top for those on a budget.
