Seven Reasons to go on a Blind Date with the World

THE world travel championship, known as The Global Scavenger Hunt, will take place between April 12 and May 4, 2019. It may be the best travel adventure of 2019. Here’s seven reasons why:

1. A $50,000 winner-take-all cash prize awaits the world travel championship winners.

2. Adventurous Indiana Jones-types will not only circumnavigate the globe but take A Blind Date with the World visiting 10 mysteriously secret far-flung exotic countries.

3. The Global Scavenger Hunt is all about authentic, participatory and challenging site-doing, not passive sight-seeing.

4. This travel adventure competition crowns The World’s Greatest Travelers.

5. For 23-days travelers escape their daily grinds, living outside their comfort zones learning to trust strangers in strange lands.

6. This “Amazing Race for real people” tests their mettle and travel IQ against other great international travelers in a real-life adventure.

7. Imagine…a daily series of micro-adventures, from sunrise to sunset, that checks off priceless bucket list-worthy experiences creating thrillionaires out of its participants on a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Event participation open—but limited; the $25,000 per team entry fee includes: all international airfare, First Class hotels, 40% of meals, and special event travel gear. All travelers are interviewed for suitability and single travelers are welcome to apply.

Airbnb moves into the workplace

THE meetings market (or MICE as it is called) is the next most lucrative sector for hotels and is the slowest in tech adoption. So it’s unsurprising that disruptive travel companies are shaking up the market. For independent hotels, this means both opportunity and increased competition.

Airbnb finally announced a few days ago that Airbnb for Work is expanding into services and experiences for a workplace audience to “help foster a sense of belonging—even at work.” We say finally because for those who have been monitoring Airbnb’s growth, it’s been clear that the company has been looking to expand into the workplace. Back in April 2018, Airbnb for Events was launched, aimed specifically for planners. The tool encourages attendees to book Airbnb accommodations through an interactive map of Airbnb listings embedded directly on the event site.

Airbnb reports this month that 700,000 companies have had employees sign up and book with the company’s business platform. Of all these companies, more than 300,000—up from 275,000 a few weeks ago—are directly engaged with Airbnb to help manage their travel.

Luxury sustainable surf programme

SONEVA SURF is an eco-friendly surfing experience, offered at Soneva Fushi in the Baa Atoll and Soneva Jani in the Noonu Atoll in the #Maldives, and is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. In celebration of the launch, WRD has collaborated with respected Australian surf experts, Coastalwatch, to give surfers the opportunity to win a ‘World Surfaris Golden Passport’.

WRD Executive Director, Tess Willcox, said the World Surfaris Golden Passport is an unforgettable surfing experience for two people, involving a year of epic waves at four of the best surfing spots in the world: Samoa, Mentawis, J-Bay, and of course, the Soneva Surf breaks in the Maldives. “There are 13 surf breaks in the Baa Atoll and 11 in the Noonu Atoll, and not only do they boast some of the best waves in the region, they’re a well-kept secret, which means they’re uncrowded and pristine – a surfer’s dream.”

Guests are encouraged to leave everything at home as the resorts provide everything they need, from rash guards to sunscreen, and wax, and everything’s entirely eco-friendly. The eco boards are made from poxy resin, bamboo woven mats; and bio-foam, which comprises materials converted from natural plant materials and they’re manufactured by an approved ECOBOARD builder.

Entry in the competition is simple, visit the Coastalwatch website and sign up to Coastalwatch Plus.
