Telling a story at SeaWorld

INFINITY Falls is the first attraction at SeaWorld to tell a story beyond the ocean and share a message of water conservation through the adventure of a white-water river expedition, bringing to life the company's Park to Planet mission to help guests understand some of the challenges facing the planet and inspiring them to help.

Set against a rainforest backdrop, the new attraction is the centerpiece of a newly themed area designed to resemble the base camp of explorers and scientists. After riding Infinity Falls, the entire family can explore the base camp and take part in interactive experiences that combine fun with education to learn about the importance of freshwater ecosystems and efforts being taken to make an impact in the real world.

Infinity Falls brings the thrill of white-water rafting into a new experience the family can enjoy together. Aboard 8-passenger circular rafts, riders embark on an adventure through a lush rainforest environment inspired by some of the world's most incredible freshwater ecosystems. The new attraction features dynamic drops and turns, interactive water elements, and allow guests to experience the feel of exhilarating rapids. The ride also features an innovative elevator lift designed to transport the rafts to the top of the ride's 40-foot drop.

Family fun at Brussels Expo

EXACTLY 60 years ago, some diminutive blue creatures appeared in the magazine “Spirou” drawn by Pierre Culliford known as Peyo. To celebrate this anniversary in fitting style, 2018 will be #Smurfs Year with, as the smurfing on the cake, the Smurf Experience, from 9 June at #Brussels Expo.

The Smurf Experience is a unique opportunity to explore the magical universe of these little blue folks. Larger-than-life sets, spectacular effects and adventures create a unique experience to share with family and friends.

An immersive, interactive, fun and educational exhibition where visitors enter through a giant comic strip and find themselves deep in the forest; they become smaller and smaller until they are the same size as a Smurf. Then they arrive in the legendary village where they learn about the life of the Smurfs through holograms and a 360° application. They then get to sip a magic elixir in King Smurf’s house and become “real Smurfs”.

After Brussels, “The Smurf Experience” will depart on a 5-year world tour.

Ironman debuts at Hong Kong Disneyland

#DISNEY Parks’ first Marvel-themed ride, #IronMan Experience made its grand debut on January 11 at Hong Kong Disneyland. The park has spent more than three years to design and create Iron Man Experience — complete with flight simulators, 3-D projection, surround sound and other special effects that immerse guests in the Marvel story of a battle with the evil forces of Hydra.

On street level, an Iron Man billboard will dominate one of the busiest traffic areas – the Cross Harbour Tunnel. Also in three key locations in Hong Kong, Kowloon and New Territories, pedestrians are able to encounter Iron Man on the busy streets of the city with the use of AR technology. On the digital level, with the Hong Kong Disneyland interactive site and location based banners, users will have a chance to find Iron Man himself in all 18 districts of Hong Kong starting from mid-January.

360 degrees in Scotland

A new interactive online experience of some of Scotland’s most spectacular viewpoints is set to put adventurous visitors in a spin during the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design 2016.

The videos allow viewers to spin the screen 360 degrees to give a complete panorama. The national tourism organisation hopes the interactive films will inspire visitors to pull on their hiking boots, get on their bike or grab their climbing gear and sample the beautiful Scottish landscape for real.

The great outdoors is one of Scotland’s most attractive assets, with 49% of visitors inspired to come here due to the scenery and landscape. One in 10 respondents to the #Scotland Visitor Survey 2015 visited Cairngorms National Park while one in five took in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

Last year 9 million day visits in Scotland by domestic visitors included outdoor activities as part of their trip, which amounted to £186 million in expenditure.

Discover Dolphins

SEAWORLD Orlando’s Dolphin Nursery will become more interactive in 2017, giving guests the opportunity to get up close to mother and baby dolphins in all new ways.

Large-scale acrylic windows will offer up close viewing, including multiple levels to give kids a face-to-face perspective with dolphin calves. New slide out areas and lifting floor will also allow for easier access to mom and baby for the veterinary and animal care teams.

The next generation of multi-purpose digital displays will allow SeaWorld educators to share information about dolphin behavior, biology and conservation with our guests by interacting with video from the team’s educational and animal care content.

At-Bristol celebrates record visitor numbers

AT-BRISTOL SCIENCE CENTRE, an educational charity and one of the UK's leading interactive science centres, is celebrating a record number of visitors for the last financial year, when welcomed more than 304,000 visitors through its doors, including 62,100 schools visitors … a 13% increase on the previous year.

A contributing factor to the rise in visitor numbers was the opening of the revamped Planetarium, the UK's only 3D digital planetarium, which has welcomed 123,358 visitors since re-opening in April 2015.

Phil Winfield, At-Bristol's Chief Executive said: ‘We're dedicated to sparking and fostering that natural curiosity that people have about the world around us, and we're trying to create the maximum impact by giving people a genuinely inspiring experience here in #AtBristol. We've got lots of exciting initiatives in the pipeline.

Video-led campaign for Jersey

VISIT #JERSEY has launched an interactive campaign – Escape to Jersey – in which first person video footage will be used to depict the Jersey experience, allowing travellers to try before they fly.

The video shorts aim to evoke a “physiological” reaction in the viewer by appealing to the senses, and to give a taste of a potential break in Jersey without leaving the comfort of the sofa.

A team of local videographers spent the three weeks touring the island to capture the essence of Jersey in a series of video vines. From the beaches at St Ouen to the views from Mont Orgueil Castle, the entire Jersey experience has been captured. Visit Jersey will be adding further footage of the island throughout 2015.

Adam Caerlewy-Smith, head of marketing from Visit Jersey said: ‘The travel and tourism industry is undergoing a huge change in the way it seeks to engage new visitors and to continue to appeal to existing ones. We wanted to challenge people’s perceptions of Jersey and capture rich data which can shape future marketing initiatives.

‘The Escape to Jersey campaign puts a little slice of #island life in the palms of potential visitors and shows them what escaping to Jersey really feels like.’

For more information about the campaign, go to www.escapetojersey.com

See the Hadron Collider in Edinburgh

A SECTION of the world's biggest scientific experiment – the #LargeHadronCollider (LHC) – will be part of an exhibition at Edinburgh's Dynamic Earth starting on July 31.

A life-sized mock-up of part of the 17-mile particle accelerator will be on display at the attraction until August 24.

The exhibition will feature walk-through section of the LHC tunnel and accelerator, the machine that confirmed the existence of the Higgs Boson particle, as proposed by University of #Edinburgh professor and Nobel prize-winner, Peter Higgs.

Hermione Cockburn, scientific director at Dynamic Earth, said: ‘The CERN Hadron Collider is pushing the boundaries of scientific discovery, and changing what we know about the composition of our universe. It's incredibly exciting to have a section of the world's largest experiment on display, and fitting that it should visit us here in Edinburgh, where Professor Higgs theorized the existence of his proposed particle.’

Eilidh Massie, marketing manager at #Dynamic Earth, adds: ‘Alongside this impressive machine section, there will also be iconic images from the world of science, and interactive exhibits.’

Access to the exhibition is free with admission to Dynamic Earth.
