NATURAL Selection’s new Sable Alley Camp opened in May in the Khwai Private Reserve. Located in a wildlife biomass hotspot right where the dry Chobe country meets the wetlands of the Okavango Delta at Sable Alley the wildlife literally comes to us. The lagoon in front of camp is home to a pod of over 30 hippo and plains game, elephant and buffalo are often seen coming to drink close to camp.

Sable Alley offers a full range of activities; game drives; night drives; walks; mekoros, boats, sundowner cruises, hides - all in the privacy of the wildlife rich Khwai Private Reserve.

Sable Alley comprises 12 tents, two of which are interconnected family tents. The 63sqm tents are raised on decks and have mesh windows. The bathrooms have flush toilets, double vanities and the choice of an indoor or outdoor shower. The interiors were deisgned by Tracy Kelly who is based at Nom de Plume studio in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Everything used in the camp was sourced in Africa and features wildlife images by some of the continent’s finest wildlife photographers.

Greece sees growth in Spa towns

SPA towns across Greece reported 8 percent growth in terms of tickets issued in 2016 compared to a year before, a National Center for Social Research (EKKE) study found.

According to EKKE’s “Thermal Springs and Spa Towns” program, the rise marks the best performance over the 2012-2016 period, indicating a steady growth rate over time. Central Greece and Central Macedonia have recorded the highest number of visitors over the 2005-2016 period.

However, the report underlines that the figures are far from encouraging compared to 2011 and 2009. The decrease in the number of overnight stays, the continuing economic crisis and shrinking social security fund coverage for health services are cited as reasons for the declining figures.

Find a Flower Piano in San Francisco Botanical Gardens

THIS July for 12 days only, San Francisco Botanical Garden (SFBG) once again becomes the city’s own outdoor concert hall and everyone is invited to play and listen. 

During “Flower Piano,” July 13-24, 2017 visitors are encouraged to seek out one of the 12 pianos tucked among the many flower-filled gardens within SFBG’s 55 acres and play what they like, from Bach to boogie-woogie. 

On select days, professional pianists will be scheduled to perform as well, and the public is welcome to watch the performances. Other special events associated with Flower Piano include a Summer of Love Sing-along, family-friendly performances, and more.

Tunnel: The Archeology of Crossrail

A new virtual version of the exhibition Tunnel: The Archaeology of Crossrail at the Museum of London Docklands gives people the chance to explore the huge array of artefacts unearthed by Crossrail during construction of the Elizabeth line. 

The construction of the Elizabeth line, London’s newest railway opening in 2018, has given archaeologists a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore some of the Capital’s most historically significant, but normally inaccessible, sites. Since work began in 2009, archaeologists have uncovered more than 10,000 artefacts spanning 55 million years of the city’s history.

The immersive website has been created using a series of 360-degree panoramic images from the exhibition.

The online exhibition takes visitors on a journey along the route of the new railway, with photographs and footage captured during archaeological excavations revealing the stories of Londoners ranging from Mesolithic tool makers and inhabitants of Roman Londinium to those affected by the Great Plague of 1665.

The other 3 yachts of the Ponant Explorer series, Le Champlain, Le Bougainville and Le Dumont-d’Urville, will be the next. In a world exclusive, the four ships of the Ponant Explorers series are equipped with an underwater passenger lounge, called Blue Eye, located within the hull beneath the water line.
