Interstate visitor numbers start to improve

FIGURES released by Tourism Research Australia show the total number of interstate visitors to Western Australia grew by 4.8 per cent in the year ending March 2018.

The results of the National Visitor Survey (NVS) also shows the total number of intrastate visitors grew by 3.6 per cent and daytrips by 4.2 per cent over the same period.

However the average length of overnight stays dropped from 9.3 to 7.4 nights – largely driven by a fall in the nights spent by people visiting friends and relatives or here for business purposes. One positive sign was interstate holidaymakers increasing by 18,000 when compared to the previous year, which represents a 4.7 per cent rise.

Canada's best kept secret

CANADA'S best-kept secret is being shouted from the roof-tops of social media as more and more Aussies discover Canada’s beating heart in its central province of Manitoba. With its rolling prairieland in the south, sub-arctic tundra in the north and the rugged terrain of the pristine lakes region, Aussie road trippers are living the dream.

#Manitoba is Canada’s sixth-largest province, has more than 100,000 lakes and a population of 1.2 million. It is bordered on the north by Nunavut Territory, on the west by Saskatchewan, on the east by Ontario and on the south by North Dakota and Minnesota. While considered one of Canada’s Prairie provinces, Manitoba actually has three distinct geographical zones: the agricultural triangle in the south; the sub-arctic tundra in the far north; and the predominant Precambrian Shield with its rugged terrain and thousands of pristine lakes.

Cultivating tourism

TOP journalists and bloggers from Germany – representing various print and online publications with a combined readership of almost 3 million people, or potential German holidaymakers – are exploring the wonderful gardens in Ireland’s Ancient East this week, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

Their action-packed itinerary includes some of Ireland’s top gardens – such as the Patthana Garden in Kiltegan, Hardymount Gardens near Tullow, Woodstock Gardens & Arboretum near Inistioge; the Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens in Tramore and Coolcarrigan House & Gardens near Naas.

Earlier this year, Tourism Ireland launched a new strategy to boost tourism from Germany, setting out challenging and ambitious targets which will see the island of Ireland welcome 800,000 German visitors per year by 2021
