Good Q1 start for Maldives tourism

THE number of British holidaymakers visiting the #Maldives rose by eight percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2015, equating to 25,158 visitors compared to 23,297 in 2014.

The Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation (MMPRC) said the Indian Ocean destination hoped to capitalize on this growth, with a number of new hotel developments and the introduction of a luxury seaplane transfer from Male to Dhonakulhi Island planned for this year.

Mohamed Adam, MMPRC deputy managing director said: ‘We’re very pleased to see an increase in visitors from the UK. With our tourism offering continuing to expand and the destination celebrating its 50th anniversary of independence this year, we are confident the Maldives will continue to perform well during 2015 and look forward to welcoming more visitors from the UK.’
