All eyes on India?

INTEREST in the national parks and tiger reserves of #India looks certain to grow next year, with the spotlight shining on these habitats thanks to the 150th anniversary this month of the birth of Rudyard Kipling, and the release in 2016 of the first of two films based on The Jungle Book.

Tour operator Gane and Marshall (www.ganeandmarshall.com) is expecting a surge in enquiries about the national parks, home to Bengal tigers. The adventure and wildlife specialist offers three tours of four different tiger reserves.

December 30 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth in Bombay (now Mumbai) of #Rudyard Kipling, the English short-story writer, poet, and novelist, in 1865.

Kipling returned from education in England to India and started his career as a newspaper assistant editor, and later wrote many world-renowned works of fiction, including The Jungle Book. The states of Madhya Pradesh and Kanha National Park are often cited as the inspiration for the setting of his books.

April will see the release of Disney’s 3D version of #TheJungleBook, featuring the voices of Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Scarlett Johansson, and Christopher Walken. Warner Brothers are planning another Kipling-inspired movie for release in 2017.
