What tourism means for Oxfordshire: 32,000 jobs


#OXFORDSHIRE has revealed the results of its 2014 #tourism audit, which showed 26.7 million people visited the county. They spent £1.86 billion, supporting more than 32,000 jobs.

Of the total figure, 2.6 million were staying visitors and 24.1 million were there for the day.

Despite the national and regional picture showing a drop in the volume and value of domestic overnight trips, Oxfordshire saw a small a growth in domestic tourism volumes. Day trips across the county increased by 0.8% and expenditure increased by 1.2%.

Chief executive of Experience Oxfordshire, Hayley Beer-Gamage commented: ‘This is an excellent set of results for Oxfordshire. To see an increase across the whole of the county is a real achievement and shows what a valuable sector tourism is to supporting the local economy.’
