Classic 'petrol-heads' - gather around!!

Donington Historic Festival although only in its fourth year, the is already firmly established as a major fixture on the international historic racing calendar, attracting many thousands of spectators, hundreds of world-class historic racing cars and huge numbers of classic car club displays.

Donington Park, Derby, has a fabulous history, from the days of the pre-War Silver Arrows GP cars right through to modern times, and the Festival calls upon all that history, creating a fantastic atmosphere at what is arguably the best spectator circuit in the country. Rivalling the very best international historic motorsport events, inviting only the very finest race series and the highest-calibre cars and drivers, while maintaining ‘family-friendly’ ticket prices, well below the usual cost of such top-quality historic motorsport weekends.

In 2013, the third Festival built on that foundation and added a new dimension, celebrating one of the greatest racing drivers the sport has known, with a memorable tribute to Ayrton Senna. This was the year the Festival became a three-day event, with some 400 historic racing cars from the 1920s to the 1980s, battling for victory. There were Group C Le Mans sportscars, GT40s and Ferrari GTOs, Touring Cars from the 70s and 80s, single-seaters, and an unforgettable pre-War Grand Prix grid, which echoed the earliest days of racing at Donington Park, and featured some of the very cars which had raced at the track 80 years ago.

As well as watching such iconic machines fighting it out on track, spectators can wander round the race paddocks, enjoying free access and getting up close to the cars and stars. And there are always plenty of off-track attractions and live action – including legendary Group B rally cars, autojumble and memorabilia stalls, cafés, bars and food outlets – and extensive club displays of classic cars from the dozens of car clubs that create a ‘living motoring museum’ right in the heart of the infield.

On Saturday 3rd May 2014 in conjunction with Castle Donington Parish Council, Donington Park and the Donington Historic Festival organisers have arranged for a parade of historic cars around the local town centre on the evening of Saturday 3rd May. The cars will leave Donington Park at 5.30pm where they will head along Market Street and then onto Borough Street before turning right onto the Hollow. The route will then continue right onto Clapgun Street and finally right onto Apiary Gate. This route will be completed twice and the parade will then park in the Market Place where members of the public will have the opportunity to talk to the drivers and find out more about this weekend's Donington Historic Festival. This spectacular parade of classic cars will include: Maserati 250 S, Bentley 3/41/2, Aston Martin DB4, Jaguar C-Type, Austin-Healey 100S, Austin-Healey 100M, Lagonda LG45, Willment Climax, Austin-Healey Special Test Car, 1914 TT Sunbeam.
