Durham capitalizes on rich heritage in new campaign

VISIT COUNTY DURHAM has launched a spring campaign to coincide with heritage openings and events taking place in the region this year.

The campaign is being run in partnership with Eleven Arches, Beamish Museum, Durham Cathedral, Durham University, and Durham County Council’s Culture and Sport Services.

It follows the recent announcement of the launch date for the Open Treasure exhibition opening in Durham Cathedral’s Claustral buildings on July 23, and Eleven Arches’ open-air live action show, ‘Kynren – an epic tale of England’, which debuts on July 2.

Other visitor attractions and new events include Beamish Museum’s chemist’s and photography studio; the Palace Green Library’s commemorative exhibition – The Somme 1916: From Durham to the Western Front – and the Gala Theatre’s immersive walkthrough experience, 1916: No Turning Back.

Michelle Gorman, managing director of Visit County Durham, said: ‘The campaign is an opportunity to put Durham’s fascinating heritage centre stage, showcasing these fantastic experiences to a national audience. This is an exciting year for the county, with even more attractions and events bringing our past to life. By raising the profile of the county as a short break destination, we aim to boost the visitor economy through increased visitor numbers and spend.’
