NEXT year sees the 200th anniversary of the death of Jane Austen, and her home county of Hampshire is planning a series of commemorative events. The author of classics such as Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey and Sense and Sensibility, Austen was born, lived, and died in Hampshire.

Hampshire Cultural Trust’s Jane Austen 2017 will feature exhibitions, talks, walks, competitions, and performances
There will be Jane Austen Big Picnics throughout the year … visitors can watch period performances, try Regency food, and learn more about Austen’s life
A nationwide literary competition, in partnership with Jane Austen’s House Museum, will be launched in September this year
Jane Austen 200 will comprise exhibitions, events, and activities related to Jane Austen at museums and arts venues across Hampshire.
