Millions of Brits planning city breaks abroad

MORE than 23.5 million people in Britain plan to have a holiday abroad this year, according to research by Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance.

One in five will have booked by the end of 2014.

And a further 14% will do so by the end of January.

The survey found that an estimated 22.1 million (47% of adults) are planning a holiday within the UK

Other findings include:

  •  The average holiday cost will be £806, excluding spending money.
  •  City breaks are the most popular form of holiday for 2015, followed by beach holidays, walking holidays, and cruises.
  •  One in ten will pay for their holiday with a credit card to spread the cost.
