Up in the air …

RYANAIR has added almost 2,000 extra flights across its European network for the October holidays, with almost 350,000 additional seats now on sale.

UK customers and visitors can choose from more than 300 additional flights for travel in October on more than 150 routes.

THE SKIES are a little – just a little – greener after two Alaska Airlines jets left Seattle fueled by the first alcohol-to-jet fuel made from sustainable US corn. They flew to San Francisco and Washington DC.

The 1,500 gallons of bio-fuel used on the flights had a minimal impact on Alaska Airlines' overall greenhouse gas emissions, but if the airline were able to replace 20 percent of its entire fuel supply at Sea-Tac Airport, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 142,000 metric tons of CO2, equivalent to taking some 30,000 passenger vehicles off the road for one year.
