THIS year’s ten-day Düsseldorf' Fair starts on July 17.
Dating back to the 15th century – when a local shooting club began celebrating its patron saint's day – the annual fair on the Rhine now attracts some four million visitors, rivalling the better known Oktoberfest in Bavaria.
The fair combines traditional and modern entertainment, with beer tents, and sausages, and state-of-the-art rides.
It kicks off with 3,000 uniformed marksmen on horseback and foot, and marching bands, in a parade through Düsseldorf's streets.
Hotel and travel packages for event, starting at €62 (£44.25) per person, are available from the Düsseldorf Tourist Board – www.duesseldorf-tourismus.de/en/accommodation/hotel-packages/hotel-package-biggest-fun-fair-on-the-rhine
