Travel and tour the world
FOLLOWING the current trend of peer-to-peer user experience platforms, Tourme allows travelers to connect with local experts for a memorable and personalized experience no matter where they are in the world.
Tourme began as a dream: a father-daughter quest for pineapple picking farms in Maui that became a blockbuster-script-worthy adventure. With the help of a friendly local, the duo not only found their pineapples, but shared an experience that would live in their hearts forever. It was this memory that sparked the idea for the peer-to-peer touring platform, Tourme.
From the sandy beaches of Lahaina to the drawing room floor, the vision for Tourme eventually led to a fully realized #travel #app and website with 10,000 potential tour guides in 150 countries around the world.
Tourme offers 4 types of tours to help travelers find the right guide for their next adventure. Take a bar crawl through Barcelona, learn to Salsa in Santo Domingo, or pick pineapples in Hawaii; with Tourme, it's up to you. Available to download now in the App Store and Google Play.

CityButler, at your service
GLOBAL travel tech company ButlerTech has created an app that provides holidaymakers with a guide to help them make the most of their city breaks, from a cruise tour of Ayutthaya in Bangkok to a chocolate ecstasy tour in London.
The CityButler app is designed with the traveller in mind, allowing users to navigate and book activities or services city by city. On selecting a category, the user can view ratings of each business as well as reviews of their services. From local SIM cards to transport and excursions, the app allows users to order or book anything they might need during their city stay.
‘Every business, attraction, tour operator, retailer, or service provider that features on the CityButler app has been handpicked by our local experts to ensure each traveller can plan and enjoy the best possible city experience,’ says Mike Mazza, CEO and founder of ButlerTech. ‘Should any user need help or additional advice during their city stay, there is also a support chat section to message one of our assistants. Travellers can now rely on one single app for everything they might need during their city visit.’
For the launch, the app features eight cities: London, Manchester (England), Bangkok, Melbourne, Pattaya, Phuket, Singapore, and Sydney. Further destinations in Asia, Europe, and the US are to be added in the coming months including Hong Kong, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Milan, and Rome.
CityButler is free to download in the App Store and is available to use on desktop via www.citybutler.co. The Android and tablet versions will be available by the end 2016.

In the footsteps of St Francis
A GUIDEBOOK re-tracing the steps of St Francis of Assisi across #Umbria, #Italy, has been launched by Cicerone Publishing.
Stretching over 28 days and 340 miles, ‘The Way of St Francis: From Florence to Assisi and Rome’ connects significant places and dusty paths from the life of the saint and makes them available to pilgrims and walkers seeking to follow in his footsteps.
Sandy Brown, from Seattle in the US – an ordained minister and long-distance walker – has re-traced the path of the patron saint of animals and the environment to produce a 288-page guidebook.

Sandy Brown, from Seattle in the US – an ordained minister and long-distance walker – has re-traced the path of the patron saint of animals and the environment to produce a 288-page guidebook.
The walk gives travellers the opportunity to experience the places where the saint lived, prayed, and worked, as well as venturing into the green heart of Italy.
The guide highlights the region’s lifestyle and focuses on its tranquillity, history, culture, and the hospitality of its people.
Each Umbrian town, says Reverend Brown, on the route has treasures of art, history, culture, tradition, and cuisine waiting to be discovered.
‘I've walked many pilgrim trails in Europe,’ he says, ‘and none are quite as magnificent as the path from Assisi to Rome.
When I walked this route in 2013, I knew instantly that I wanted other walkers from all over the world to share in the experience of this fascinating trail, so I took pen to paper and wrote the first English copy of The Way of St Francis.’
‘The Way of St Francis: From Florence to Assisi and Rome’, £16.95, is published by Cicerone – a specialist travel publishing house.

Puglia online
HOLIDAY lets company Aria Luxury Apulia has published an online guide to #Puglia, #Italy.
The guide covers cuisine, culture, wine, and activities for holidaymakers, from general information such as the weather and the best time of year to visit, to specialist material about the region’s UNESCO heritage sites.
Chiara Tenuzzo, director of Aria Luxury Apulia, said: ‘There is so much to share about this little known area of Italy, so it’s been a great experience compiling all the articles for our Puglia guide. Our knowledge of the region is supreme, so it is no surprise that we now have what many people deem the web’s most comprehensive collection of Puglia travel tips.
‘As Puglia is Italy’s best kept secret, it can be hard to find accurate and relevant information about the region. While we love the fact it is exclusive and people can enjoy a unique holiday, we also believe there should be access to more information. In this digital age, travellers want to find out pretty much everything about a destination before they commit to it. Now they can, thanks to our Puglia guide.’

Festival fun … and what it costs
When calculated on a per-day-rate, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California – said to be America’s answer to Glastonbury – tops the list as the most expensive, at £187 per day. Coachella has the highest admission charge, at £252.
Tomorrowland in Belgium follows as the second most expensive, at £186 per day.
England’s Glastonbury is one of the longest-established summer festivals, but music lovers heading there in June will certainly pay for the experience. It comes in as the third most expensive at £113 a day.
Roskilde in Denmark will set revellers back £641, but for that you get eight days of festival fun.
British festival fans looking to make their pounds go further are best off heading to Slavic countries. The Exit festival in Serbia is the cheapest place to enjoy live music, with the daily and total costs for the four days coming to just £54 and £217 respectively. A beer there costs £1, almost a sixth of the cost of beer at Coachella.

The Open’er festival in Poland closely follows Exit as the second cheapest, with a day costing just £57.
Simon Phillips, Head of Retail for No1. Currency, says: ‘As the birth place of British festival culture, Glastonbury remains one of the most iconic and celebrated music events in the British calendar but, as our research shows, being a part of this tradition will cost you. Tickets are not far behind those of Coachella in terms of prices, and neither is the cost of food and drink when you’re there – unsurprising considering the festival is famous for having some of the best festival food around.
‘It can actually work out much better value to travel to a festival in mainland Europe than to stay at home. Not only does your cash go further in Europe, where food and drink in particular are relatively cheap compared to the UK, but Brits heading to festivals in the eurozone this summer will enjoy the added bonus of a strengthening pound.’

Rules of the road … across Europe
AIRPORT PARKING & HOTELS (APH) has produced a guide for UK holidaymakers highlighting the different driving rules and regulations – including maximum speed limits and fines, and equipment and paperwork that drivers must carry – in 20 European countries.
Speed limits on European motorways was found to vary significantly, ranging from 62mph in Cyprus and Latvia to 80mph in Austria, France, and Greece.
Germany imposes no maximum speed limit on motorways, although an 80mph top speed is ‘recommended’ on some autobahns.
Denmark, Finland, and Sweden inflict varying speed limits on all roads, so drivers are urged to pay particular attention to road signs.
All 20 countries surveyed have on-the-spot fines, with countries such as Belgium, Italy, and Poland, requiring drivers to make an immediate cash deposit towards fines.
Countries such as Cyprus, Greece, and Sweden are not allowed to collect any money from on-the-spot fines and instead ask drivers to pay their fines at a later date. It is advised that drivers carry both cash and/or a payment card when driving abroad, as some countries such as Portugal have portable ATM machines in traffic police vehicles for immediate payment of any driving infraction.
UK and American drivers should also be aware that compulsory car equipment varies according to country. Nine out of the 20 countries researched require drivers to carry a reflective jacket in the car at all times, but France is the only country in Europe that requires drivers to carry a breathalyzer kit inside their vehicle.

Forest guide

Stoneywell and its unique history – it was built as a summer residence in Charnwood, part of The National Forest, by locally born architect-designer Ernest Gimson – is one of the attractions highlighted in the guide.
John Everitt, chief executive, National Forest Company - www.nationalforest.org, said: ‘The guide captures the essence of the National Forest, with plenty of ideas and inspiration for day trips and short breaks, and the voices of Forest residents and national travel writers make for great reading.’
