Whatever happened to travelling light?

AS Britons book their summer holidays, research from Nokia suggests they might be planning to pack more than 10 million electronic devices, the equivalent weight of 20  jumbo jets … leaving little room for holiday essentials.

Despite the holiday ideal of travelling light, half of Britons are packing two or more electronic devices, excluding a Smartphone, when they travel. The growing dependence on numerous electronic devices forces 90 percent of travellers to check-in their bags if they take all the gadgets and clothes they feel they need, not to mention all the chargers and adaptors, leaving little luggage room for other holiday essentials.

The survey of more than 4,000 US and UK adults highlights the overwhelming pressure travellers feel to pack every device they own in order to stay connected to work. A quarter of those questioned admit to checking their work e-mails more than twice a day when on holiday, and one in 10 take their laptops to the beach.
