JERSEY’S big event in August is the island’s annual #BattleoftheFlowers.
The Daytime Parade will be on August 13, and the Moonlight Parade is on the evening of August 14.
This year’s designated charity is the British Red Cross.
What began more than a century ago as a one-off celebration to mark a royal coronation – of King Edward VII – has grown into one of the largest floral carnivals in Europe.

What began more than a century ago as a one-off celebration to mark a royal coronation – of King Edward VII – has grown into one of the largest floral carnivals in Europe.
In those early days, the floral floats were mostly horse-drawn.
The tradition at the time was for flowers and petals to be torn from the floats and thrown to women in the crowd, in the hope that they would be thrown back … which explains how the ‘Battle’ got its name.
